Georgia Attorney General Asks FCC to Let Jails and Prisons Use Cell Phone Jammers

Georgia’s attorney general wants a federal agency to lift its ban on cell phone jammers that bars state officials from using the devices to block contraband cell phones in jails and prisons.

The Federal Communications Commission currently bars cell phone “jammers” within prisons and jails, a prohibition Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr’s office said extends to state and local governments. Carr made his request to reconsider the prohibition in a Tuesday letter to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.

‘Operation Ghost Busted’ Drug Dealer Sentence Among Highest for Two Overdose Fatalities in Georgia

A Glynn County resident, sentenced to 20 years in federal prison as part of Operation Ghost Busted, pled guilty to trafficking the drugs responsible for two overdose fatalities.

32-year-old Jon Dillon Screen of Brunswick, Georgia, pled guilty to trafficking drugs, including the fentanyl that killed Screen’s girlfriend and a man from Brunswick.

Georgia Charges 61 People with RICO Indictment over Atlanta Public Training Center Protests

More than 60 people have been indicted by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr (R) as part of an alleged criminal conspiracy related to protests of Atlanta’s new Public Safety Training Center.

Public officials confirmed that 61 individuals were indicted as part of a racketeering case tied to the protests on Tuesday, and charging documents claim an organized criminal effort to derail the police and public safety training facility began as early as 2020. The case will be prosecuted by Carr using the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Chris Carr Calls Out George Soros for Installing Partisan District Attorneys

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr (R) called out billionaire and Open Society founder George Soros for his financial support of progressive district attorneys, a move that has resulted in crime spikes across the nation.

“George Soros has spent tens of millions to elect prosecutors who care more about coddling criminals than about protecting families. Now the Soros family is funding my Democrat opponent because they know I’ll stand up for YOU, not criminals,” Carr wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

Two Georgia Physicians Forced to Pay Millions Over Allegations of Kickback Scheme

Two physicians, and the company they manage, agreed to pay millions to settle allegations of a healthcare kickback arrangement with other doctors, according to a release from the Department of Justice.

Specifically, Paul D. Weir, John R. Morgan, and Care Plus Management will distribute $7.2 million to solve the complaint over potential violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act.

A Georgia State Senator officially left her post Monday on the last day of this year’s legislative session, as she continues her bid to be the Peach State’s top attorney. 

“I leave the Senate perhaps most proud of the gains we’ve made in representation, with women now making up a supermajority of the Democratic Caucus. I know they’ll continue to fight the good fight,” State Sen. Jen Jordan (D-District 6) said on Twitter. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all of your support. We’ve made a difference in the State Senate together, and I cannot wait to continue my service to this great state as Georgia’s next Attorney General.”
