Republican lawmakers are ripping Gov. Evers after a new audit shows many former inmates are not being sent back to prison for new crimes.
The Legislative Audit Bureau released its report into the state’s Community Corrections Program on Friday. It says the Department of Corrections is not following-up on former inmates well enough, and says Department of Corrections agents are not reporting crimes that could send ex-convicts back to prison.

One western Wisconsin state representative says kids looking to get into gifted and talented programs in public schools across the state are out of luck for another year.
Rep. Warren Petryk, R-Town of Washington, on Thursday said Gov. Evers’ veto of his gifted and talented legislation puts a brick on progress for kids who want the most out of their education.

There are some worries among dairy farmers in Wisconsin about a new water officer position that’s headed for Gov. Evers’ desk.
The Wisconsin Senate this week approved a plan, AB 727, that creates a new hydrologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension.
The Wisconsin Dairy Alliance and the Venture Dairy Cooperative released a joint statement pleading with the governor not to turn the new position into an environmental advocate.

Another Republican-driven tax cut has been signed by Gov. Tony Evers.
Evers on Monday signed AB 717, which exempts any and all Restaurant Revitalization grants from state taxes.
“This will ensure that these funds are treated like the Paycheck Protection Loans by making them state-tax-exempt,” Evers said.
