U.S. Rep. Dr. Mark Green (R-TN-07) was selected by the House Republican Steering Committee to serve as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Green said in a tweet, “I’m honored to be selected by the Steering Committee to join the House Foreign Affairs Committee. I look forward to working with @RepMcCaul and the committee to confront the global challenges facing the US during this difficult time.”

He added in a statement, “From continuing the fight to end global terrorism and strengthening our alliances, to holding China accountable, there are few priorities more important to ensuring the safety and security of the United States.”
Green said he is a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran who served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said he flew as a Night Stalker on the mission that resulted in the capture of Saddam Hussein, and he interviewed Saddam Hussein for six hours on the night of his capture.
He said he serves on the House Oversight Committee as a member of the Subcommittee on National Security and the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. Green was appointed to the Coronavirus Subcommittee in May.
Green was one of four lawmakers the House Republican Steering Committee selected for new assignments on Wednesday evening, The Hill reported. The new appointments are a result of Republican gains in special elections this year.
The other Republican committee appointments are as follows: U.S. Rep. Troy Balderson (R-OH-12) will serve on the House Agriculture Committee; U.S. Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA-25) will be on the Homeland Security Committee; and U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN-08) was selected to sit as a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources.
