Many politicians and policymakers predicted that Monday would be a “Black Monday.” While the equities market closed lower, the drops were at a lower pace than last week. In connecting the tariffs to the market’s volatility, part of the evenness of Monday’s trading came on the heels of news that numerous American trading partners agreed to negotiate with President Donald Trump and offered free trade deals to ratchet down his “reciprocal tariffs.”

Last Wednesday, which Trump dubbed “Liberation Day,” the president announced large-scale tariffs on nearly every country, declaring that the measures would help to end American trade deficits with foreign powers and bolster domestic production of goods. Thursday and Friday witnessed precipitous declines in the stock market, though the administration made clear it would hold the course.

Trump Admin Moves to Stifle China’s Ability to Weaponize American Tech Against Americans

The Trump administration on Tuesday introduced a new round of export controls in an effort to further stifle China’s access to U.S. technology.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced that it was adding 80 companies — dozens of which are Chinese — to a trade blacklist, citing national security concerns. The move aims to restrict the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ability to acquire and develop ultra fast, or “exascale” supercomputers as well as quantum technologies to be used in military applications.

Lutnick Says Trump Has Agreed to Eliminate Income Taxes for Americans Making Less than $150K

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Friday said that he has received confirmation from the president that the U.S. will eliminate income taxes on households making less than $150K a year, if he successfully balances the budget. 

President Donald Trump previously teased eliminating the federal income tax in January, claiming that if his plans with tariffs work out then he would eliminate the federal tax.
