Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Requests Public Input for 2022-2024 Hunting Regulations

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is welcoming comments for its 2022-24 hunting regulations, according to a Friday press release by the agency. This is an opportunity for the public to share ideas, comments, and make suggestions about hunting season dates, bag limits, wildlife management area (WMA) regulations, and more.

The public comment period is open through February 15. According to the press release, public comments will all be considered regarding season setting and other changes. Items typically not a consideration during the TWRA normal season setting process are Tennessee Code Annotated or TCA rules, waterfowl season dates (federally mandated), and anything regarding fishing.

A synopsis of the public comments will be presented along the agency’s hunting regulations proposals are scheduled to be presented to the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission for review during its April 2022 meeting and voted upon at the May meeting. Hunting regulations are set every two years. However, as the press release notes, the commission is allowed to make amendments to the proclamation as it deems appropriate.

Comments may be emailed to [email protected]. The TWRA is asking those submitting comments through email to include “Hunting Season Comments” on the subject line of the emailed submissions. Regular mail submissions may be sent to Hunting Season Comments, TWRA Wildlife and Forestry Division, 5101 Edmondson Pike, Nashville, TN 37211.

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold its first 2022 meeting January 20-21 at the Lannom Center in Dyersburg, the agency also announced Friday in a press release. On Thursday, the 20th, the meeting begins at 1 p.m. On Friday, the 21st, the meeting begins at 9 a.m. These meetings will preview the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s recommendations for the 2022-23 migratory game bird hunting seasons.
