The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday announced the indictment of seven Chinese nationals who allegedly operated an illicit marijuana growing operation in Michigan which they claimed is connected to a multi-million dollar network “across the Northeast,” including properties in Maine.
Prosecutors allege that Jianxong Chen led the scheme with the support of at least six named co-conspirators, who received money laundering and conspiracy charges, with Chen allegedly overseeing the conspiracy that smuggled individuals into the country to work in grow houses.Â
