Older Americans, the press release went on to say, are increasingly targeted for financial scams and it is estimated they lose more than $36 billion every year to scams. The resolution passed with 411 votes of support, the press release said. Rose speaking on the House Floor, said the following, according to a video on c-span.org: “For too long the financial exploitation of seniors has been swept under the rug. There were 31 national emergencies in effect prior to Trump declaring a national emergency to address the crisis at our southern border. Of those still in effect, former Democratic President Barack Obama declared 10 of them, according to Rose’s press release. “Sadly, Democrats have continued political stunts and recklessly neglected the crisis at our southern border. Rose had two fundraising events in Washington, D.C. this week. Tennessee Star Political Editor Steve Gill notes that is unusual for a candidate to be in Washington DC the week before a tightly contested election ends, especially an election where everyone is trying to distance themselves from the “swamp in DC.” “The optics are bad, and the timing is worse,” Gill observes. “It is the kind of late mistake that can swing a few points in an election and make the difference between winning and losing. Though straw polls at official Republican Party functions are not necessarily a predictor of voting behavior in primaries, they are a good indication of the local organizational skills of the contending candidates. The Lee campaign considered the straw poll win significant, coming as it does less than two months before the August 2 Republican primary in a county that Black represents in Congress. Robertson County Republican Party officials announced only the order of finish of the candidates in the straw poll, not their actual vote totals. by John Rose It is time we have a Congress that supports our President. The President’s visit to Tennessee last week was a reminder that though the liberal news media would have you believe differently, the President’s agenda is popular here in Tennessee and across America and if I have the privilege of representing the people of Tennessee’s sixth district, I will help him pass it. A small business owner and farmer, Rose briefly served as Tennessee agriculture commissioner under former Republican Gov. Don Sundquist. Rose has $468,029 cash on hand after expenditures totaling $74,421, according to his filing with the Federal Election Commission. More than $250,000 came from self-funding. Rose’s campaign got a boost from Democratic contributors and a somewhat bigger one from members of the Haslam family. Charles Robert Bone, a Nashville attorney, businessman and Democratic Party fundraiser, contributed $2,700. His wife, Sacha, contributed an additional $2,700. Nashville Democratic political strategist Dave Cooley contributed $500. “You will not find two bigger Democrats in this state than Obama bundler Charles Bone and Bredesen ‘political enforcer’, Dave Cooley,” said one longtime GOP insider. “What is perplexing is that Rose thought accepting these contributions from two notorious liberal Democrats would somehow help him with conservative Republicans.
