Ohio Bipartisan Legislation Authorizing Tax Credit for Landlords That Allow Pets Assigned to Committee

A piece of legislation introduced into the Ohio House of Representatives to authorize a tax credit for landlords who allow companion animals to reside in their rental units has been assigned to a committee for review.

Assistant Majority Whip Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) and State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) introduced House Bill (HB) 277, known as the Pet Friendly Rental Act on September 18th.

Ohio Lawmakers Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Freeze Property Taxes for Seniors

A bipartisan group of Ohio lawmakers introduced a bill to the Ohio House of Representatives to freeze property taxes for eligible seniors.

The legislation, known as the 70 Under 70 Plan, sponsored by State Representatives Thomas Hall (R-Madison Township) and Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati), would freeze property taxes for Ohioans 70 years or older who make less than $70,000 a year and have owned their home for 10 years or more.

Ohio Lawmakers Introduce Legislation Raising Tax Deduction for Joint Filers

Two Republican Ohio lawmakers have introduced a bill that would raise the annual tax deduction limit for married, joint filers.

House Bill (HB) 125 sponsored by State Representatives Adam Mathews’ (R-Lebanon) and Nick Santucci (R- Howland Township) aims to increase the annual deduction limit for married, joint filers for contributions to state 529 plans and Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE)savings accounts as well as index the annual deduction limits to inflation.

Ohio House Speaker Stephens Removes State Representative Merrin as Committee Vice-Chair

Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) removed State Representative Derek Merrin (R-Monclova) as vice-chair of the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee, which reviews legislation affecting tax policy at the state and local levels.

Majority press secretary Aaron Mulvey told The Ohio Star that Merrin received a memo from Stephens on Friday informing him that Stephens removed him as the committee’s vice-chair.
