Ohio Republican Party Pushes Back Against ACLU Stance on Ohio Parents’ Bill of Rights

The Ohio Republican Party is pushing back against the “radical extremist” group, the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio’s (ACLU), opposition to House Bill (HB) 8 which aims to require school systems to have policies in place that allow parents to be more active in their child’s education.

House Bill (HB) 8, known as the “Parents Bill of Rights,” aims to require school systems to alert parents before using materials with explicit sexual content in class, gives parents the option to review curriculum for sexually explicit content and request alternate education, requires school systems to inform parents of any changes to the mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being services given to their kids, and requires school systems to develop a parent-approved health care plan for each student.

The ACLU calls HB 8 “The Unsafe Students Act” saying that “We oppose HB 8. If passed, this legislation would require parents to be notified of any change in the student’s services or monitoring related to the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health, including their gender identity.”

The Ohio Republican Party argues that this is a “twisted, concerted effort by the far left to remove parental rights and seize control of kids’ development.”

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou says that Ohio families will not stay quiet as left-wing groups like the ACLU try to replace parents and strip their parental rights.

“Had to read this twice to be 100 percent sure. The ACLU of Ohio is apparently very upset about parents being notified of important developments in their children’s mental, emotional, or physical health. They’re saying the quiet part out loud. The radical extremist left wing doesn’t want you to know basic things about YOUR CHILDREN and their health and well-being. How can that be ok? Ohioans understand that there is a twisted, concerted effort by the far left to remove parental rights and seize control of kids’ development,” Triantafilou said.

Chairman Triantafilou noted that Democrats think they know kids better than their parents to the point of withholding critical information from them.

Yes, Every Kid

“This comes on the heels of Joe Biden boldly stating that “there is no such thing as someone else’s child.” Sadly, Democrats believe that they know what kids need better than their parents, and they are willing to withhold critical information in the process. Bottom Line: Ohio Families are not going to remain silent as the far left tries to replace parents and strip their parental rights,” Triantafilou said.

Lisa Chaffee, director of Ohio Parent’s Rights in Education echoed Triantafilou’s comments stating that “Kids need the support of their parents more than their teachers. We do not co-parent with schools.”

Ohio Right to Life President Michael Gonidakis applauded Triantafilou for highlighting the ACLU’s “horrific views.”

Thank you Mr. Chairman for highlighting the horrific views of the so-called ACLU. We are better than this, Ohio. Join the rest of us in opposing these radical activists who are attempting to destroy our families in Ohio!” Gonidakis said.

The Ohio Star reached out to the ACLU of Ohio for comment but did not receive one before press time.

The Ohio Parents Bill of Rights passed in the Ohio House Primary and Secondary Education Committee 10-5 advancing it to the House floor for further consideration last week.

The legislation is now awaiting consideration on the House floor.
