Only One-Third of Generation Z Is ‘Very Proud’ to Live in America

A new survey confirms the ongoing decline in patriotism among younger Americans, with just over one-third of the youngest generation expressing great pride in the fact that they are Americans.

As the Daily Caller reports, the poll by Morning Consult asked Americans about whether or not they would prefer to buy American-made products, even if it meant spending more money than they would for foreign-made goods. Baby Boomers, the current oldest generation, were the most likely to buy “made in America” products.

However, issues of affordability and quality ultimately proved to be more important to most respondents than whether it was American-made or foreign-made, with 62 percent of U.S. adults describing affordability as “very important.” By contrast, 53 percent preferred high quality in their products, and just 43 percent said their top factor was a “made in America” status.

Overall, 74 percent of Boomers described themselves as “very proud” to live in America. For Generation X, that number falls to 53 percent. In the two youngest generations, less than a majority answered in the affirmative, including 40 percent of Millennials and a mere 36 percent of Generation Z, or “Zoomers.” Of all U.S. adults surveyed, a narrow majority of 54 percent said they were “very proud” to live in the United States, including 57 percent of men and exactly 50 percent of women.

On the question of American-made products, just 26 percent of Zoomers described a “made in America” label as “very important.” Meanwhile, 53 percent of Boomers described this factor as “very important” to them.

The Morning Consult poll’s sample consisted of 1,000 adults, and was conducted from May 4th to May 7th. The survey’s margin of error is 3 percent.

That’s OK. Very few of the rest of us are proud of gen-Z. They’ve shown us no reason to be.
