Tennessee U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles Breaks Records Upon Introducing 100th Piece of Legislation

Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) made history on Thursday upon introducing his 100th piece of legislation since being sworn into Congress last year.

Ogles’ 100th piece of legislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives is called the Defunding Unscientific Mask Mandates Act of 2024, which would prohibit federal funds from being used to establish, implement, or enforce any COVID-19 mask mandate.

Sworn into office on January 3, 2023, Ogles has officially submitted the highest number of legislative proposals by any freshman member of Congress in “several decades,” according to the congressman’s office.

Ogles’ submissions are also the second-highest amount of legislation among all current members of the House of Representatives.

Out of Ogles’ 100 legislative proposals, a total of 37 pieces of legislation have passed by the House while three have been signed into law.

“I came to Congress to participate in meaningful policy making and hold Biden accountable,” Ogles said in a statement. “My legislative record reflects just that. Fighting for Americans requires active and effective legislators, and I am proud to be one. I am tremendously grateful to my staff for the long hours they dedicate every week, to my family for their unwavering support, and to my constituents who have the time to share their concerns and encourage me.”

“It is a privilege to serve the people of Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District. I will continue to work diligently for the interests of my constituents and the preservation of our nation,” Ogles added.

The Tennessee congressman has also worked with several U.S. senators to co-author pieces of legislation on multiple occasions, which the congressman’s office said places Ogles “at the forefront of his class, with the highest number of standalone pieces of legislation passed among all freshman members of Congress.”

Ogles is up for re-election this year for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District. He faces Metro Nashville Councilwoman Courtney Johnston in the Republican primary, which will be held on August 1.
