Commentary: Rural America Needs Permitting Reform

If something isn’t farmed, mined, or manufactured it can’t exist. And if a burdensome, archaic, and overly bureaucratic permitting scheme doesn’t allow America to farm, mine, or manufacture, we risk the detriment of our economy. That’s why the new House Republican Majority responded with H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act.

H.R. 1 updates our broken permitting process to actually let Americans mine, farm, manufacture, process, and build infrastructure so we can get shovels in the ground and move this country forward. For far too long, we’ve sat idle and let bureaucrats in Washington and radical activist lawyers hamstring American workers by suing at every opportunity, long after decisions have been made and permits have been issued.

Minnesota Legislators Respond to Upcoming ‘Squad’ Visit Regarding Line 3

Several Minnesota legislators responded to an upcoming visit from members of the “Squad” that will be taking place on Friday afternoon.  According to a press release from Representative Ilhan Omar’s (D-05-MN) office, they are planning to speak out against Line 3.

Representatives Michelle Fischbach (R-07-MN), Pete Stauber (R-08-MN), and Tom Emmer (R-06-MN) issued a statement saying that Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-05-MN), Cori Bush (D-01-MO), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-14-NY), Ayanna Pressley (D-07-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-13-MI) are “seeking soundbites.”

Minnesota Congressional Delegates Respond to Afghanistan Crisis, Calls for Biden Resignation

Congressman Jeff Van Drew issued a statement, calling for President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and Speaker Pelosi to resign following the fall of Afghanistan. Van Drew is a former Democrat who switched parties in 2018. Congressman Van Drew’s official statement reads, “President Biden’s decision to simply hand Afghanistan back to the Taliban after almost twenty years to the day since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, will go down as one of the most shocking and embarrassing failures of leadership in American history.”

GOP Says DFL Candidate Should Apologize for Mocking Rep. Stauber’s Use of Hearing Aid

The Minnesota Republican Party is calling on DFL congressional candidate Quinn Nystrom to apologize for seemingly mocking U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber’s use of a hearing aid.

Nystrom is the DFL-endorsed candidate challenging Stauber in Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District, which Republicans flipped in 2018 after the retirement of former U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan.

Republican Pete Stauber, Former Law Enforcement Officer, Carries Police Reform Bill in the House

Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN-08), a former law enforcement officer of more than 20 years, announced last week that he will carry police reform legislation in the U.S. House.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced on Wednesday the Just and Unifying Solutions to Invigorate Communities Everywhere (JUSTICE) Act, a Republican-backed police reform bill that was set in motion after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
