Phoenix Officials Recommend $500 Million in Spending to Phoenix City Council

The General Obligation Bond Executive Committee of Phoenix approved many spending recommendations on Monday.

The GO Executive Committee agreed on how it will recommend the Phoenix City Council will spend $500 million for a 2023 GO Bond Program.

If the City Council approves the Bond Program, voters will have the final say on it during a November 2023 special election.

Executive Committee Chair Sharon Harper sent the Phoenix City Council a letter summarizing the allocations per subcommittee, plus a list of the recommended projects and programs to be completed under the proposed bond program.

Here are the Executive Committee’s recommendations per subcommittee:

  • Arts & Culture – $50,385,000
  • Economic Development & Education – $38,000,000
  • Environment & Sustainability – $26,000,000
  • Housing, Human Services & Homelessness – $63,000,000
  • Neighborhoods & City Services – $44,615,000
  • Parks & Recreation – $64,000,000
  • Public Safety – $132,500,000
  • Streets & Storm Drainage – $81,500,000

In the letter, Harper wrote that she thinks this spending will benefit everyone in the community.

“It was an honor to serve as Chair of the GO Bond Executive Committee.” Harper wrote. “I would like to thank my fellow committee members for their time and commitment to the process. I believe our recommendations reflect the highest priority needs of the City and will benefit all members of the community.”

The Bond Executive Committee will formally present the Phoenix City Council will these recommendations during its Dec. 13 meeting.
