Nashville Mayoral Candidate Alice Rolli ‘Disappointed’ in General Assembly for Not Considering Extreme Risk Order of Protection Laws During Special Session

Nashville Mayoral candidate Alice Rolli says she is “disappointed” in state lawmakers for “not yet considering an extreme risk option” when it comes to gun safety ahead of the General Assembly’s special session.

The General Assembly’s special session will convene on Monday, August 21.

“This week’s special session is a first step in working to improve the safety of our community,” Rolli began in an emailed statement. “I applaud the many bills filed to improve access and availability of mental health services and to better support and fund safe gun storage initiatives.”

However, the mayoral candidate went on to add that she is “disappointed” in recent reports that suggest the General Assembly will not pass “an extreme risk option.”

Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) are often referred to as “temporary mental health orders of protection,” or otherwise known as red flag laws.

“If we have figured out a way to temporarily separate a parent experiencing a mental health crisis or drug addiction from their child, it seems to me we ought to be able to figure out a way to temporarily separate an individual experiencing a mental health crisis or drug addiction from their firearms,” Rolli said.

The mayoral candidate then pivoted to addressing protestors planning on traveling to Nashville during the special session, saying, “I call on everyone coming to Nashville to participate in demonstrations surrounding the special session to maintain peace.”

“This is our home and an important tourism destination for our state. Let your voice be heard, but act peacefully and take care of our city and of each other,” Rolli concluded.

The Nashville mayoral runoff election between Rolli and Freddie O’Connell is scheduled for Thursday, September 14.

Whoever is advising her is shooting themselves in tge foot. If I lived in Davidson County I’d still vote for her, but I live next county over.

  2. Joe Blow

    Just another Tennessee RINO.

If she thought that would gain her votes she was very badly mistaken.

I am disappointed in her stance on this.
Stating that a red flag law would “temporarily separate” a legal gun owner from their firearm(s) is really disingenuous. Most rfls around the country make it extremely difficult, if at all, to recover your firearms if an rfl is used against you.

    Nashville is hopeless!

Wow Alice terrible, voted for you the first time and not going to vote in the final. At least Freddie is a NO on surveillance state license plate cameras and Nissan Stadium tax money. Just saved me a trip to the polls.
