The Tennessee State Museum and Tennessee State Library & Archives will host free events Saturday where families can celebrate Tennessee’s 226th birthday.
The Statehood Day Celebration hosted by the Tennessee State Library & Archives will have live music, a children’s scavenger hunt, games, crafts, a historic photography demonstration, historical reenactments, and an open house for the Early Literacy Center at the Library & Archives.
Tennessee’s three priceless original constitutions and a new exhibit featuring rarely seen historical documents, including the Cumberland Compact, Governor John Sevier’s Address to the first Tennessee General Assembly, the Cherokee Nation 1827 Constitution, and the founding documents of the State of Franklin will be publicly displayed in the Library & Archives’ lobby.
Guests can also pick up free historical craft kits and a Passport to Tennessee History.
The celebration, located at 1001 Rep. John Lewis Way N., on the northeast corner of the Bicentennial Mall State Park, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are excited to honor Tennessee’s 226th birthday at our family-friendly Statehood Day Celebration this Saturday,” Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett said in a statement. “We have so much planned for guests to see and explore that will make Tennessee history come alive. I encourage you to bring your family and friends and help us celebrate our great state.”
In addition, the Tennessee State Museum will commemorate both Statehood Day and the museum’s 85th birthday with a day full of events ranging from information-rich self-guided tours, games, and crafts.
The museum is located at the corner of Rosa L. Parks Blvd. and Jefferson Street, adjacent to the Nashville Farmers’ Market at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For those wanting to spend the day outside, Tennessee State Parks is celebrating its 85th anniversary this Saturday with guided hikes at all 56 state parks, as The Tennessee Star reported.
