Sen. Elizabeth Warren Follows Taylor Swift in Pushing for Equality Act

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) signed and promoted Taylor Swift’s Change.org petition asking the U.S. Senate to support the Equality Act. The presidential candidate’s statement is available here. Warren’s support follows the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), which was published on Change.org last week. Swift is the creator of the petition in question. It is available here. Warren shared this statement with Change.org users: It’s 2019 and our LGBTQ+ friends continue to face discrimination at work, school, and in their communities. Trans people in America are getting murdered – most of them women of color. In the name of protecting religious liberty, civil rights are being trampled on. It’s hard to find an affordable place to live that doesn’t discriminate based on your gender identity or expression, race, or who you love. Enough is enough. I’m proud to represent Massachusetts in the Senate, a state that has led the nation in protecting and promoting equality. But there’s so much more work to be done. We can start by passing the Equality Act – a bill that would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations. I’m glad to see the…

Rep. Green Promotes Income Share Agreements Plan to Solve Student Debt Crisis

Mark Green

U.S. Rep. Dr. Mark Green (R-TN-07) wrote an op-ed recently explaining how one of his bills would solve the student debt crisis. Green published the op-ed last Friday in The Daily Signal discussing his Kids to College Act, which is cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX-15). The op-ed is available in its entirety here. Colleges could begin offering “income share agreements,” where students agree to pay for college with a percentage of their future earnings. This way, colleges and universities would be incentivized to help students secure good paying jobs after they graduate, because tuition payments would depend on it. Responsibility would fall on the student as well. Income share agreements would encourage prospective students to research starting salaries for their major and learn what they can expect in return for their studies. In a desire to see income share agreements more widely offered, my Democratic colleague Vicente Gonzalez of Texas partnered with me to introduce the Kids to College Act, a bipartisan bill that would encourage more schools to utilize these agreements. In his op-ed, without naming names, Green criticized 2020 Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) plan to wipe out up to $50,000 of student loan…

Presidential Hopeful Liz Warren Unveils Her Plan for Federal Lands: Ban Drilling, Make National Parks Free

by Michael Bastach   Massachusetts Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren unveiled her plan for the 640 millions of acres controlled by the federal government. Warren’s “plan for public lands,” released Monday, includes banning coal, natural gas and oil production, and making all national parks free to visit. Warren’s goal is to tackle climate change while spurring economic development on federal lands. “It is wrong to prioritize corporate profits over the health and safety of our local communities,” Warren wrote in a Medium post announcing her plan. Warren says she wants to “make public lands part of the climate solution – not the problem.” “That’s why on my first day as president, I will sign an executive order that says no more drilling — a total moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases, including for drilling offshore and on public lands,” she wrote. That’s a complete one-eighty from the Trump administration’s agenda of promoting natural resource development. Warren also set a goal of getting 10 percent of U.S. electricity generation from renewable energy on public lands and waters. “My administration will make it a priority to expedite leases and incentivize development in existing designated areas, and share royalties from renewable generation with states and…

Commentary: Democrat Presidential Candidates to Provide Comic Relief This Week as McConnell Presses ‘Green New Deal’ Vote

by CHQ Staff   Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled some comic entertainment for the Senate in the form of a debate and vote on the Democrats’ “Green New Deal” plan. The debate and vote are expected to come some time later this week. The “Green New Deal” was authored by freshman Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (NY-14), and longtime global warming whacko Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, it calls for ridding the nation of fossil fuels in the next few decades, among other dramatic environmental and economic changes. To give Americans some idea of the “dramatic environmental and economic changes” Democrats contemplate, the “Green New Deal” rollout included a fact sheet produced by Ocasio-Cortez’s staff that called for eliminating the need for air travel, retrofitting every house and building to green energy standards, and reforming the nation’s agricultural practices to eliminate cows. Practicing up for the coming debate, Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez appeared on a Showtime comedy show last week and said, “We need to take a look at factory farming, and maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Socialist Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s calls to curb methane-producing cows and her proposal to end the alleged environmental…
