  The Democratic Party of Davidson County picked on the wrong Republican grandmother when it attacked State Senator Mae Beavers (R- Mt. Juliet) in a press release late Friday afternoon. On Saturday, the Republican gubernatorial candidate punched back, and her response stunned the left wing pajama boys and girls in Nashville. Davidson County’s Democrats alleged on Friday Beavers “could be breaking federal law and violating the First Amendment by blocking some Twitter users,” according to chattanoogan.com. “If blocking hateful trolls who tweet profanity and obscene images constitutes viewpoint discrimination, then I’d be more than happy to slug it out in federal court,” Beavers said in a statement released by her campaign on Saturday that bore the headline “Beavers Responds to Offended Snowflakes.” “Sharing opinions is a cherished constitutional right, but posting borderline pornography on someone else’s account is clearly not,” the conservative candidate for the Republican nomination for governor continued.   State Rep. Mark Pody (R-Lebanon) announced today that he is a candidate for the State Senate seat that Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet) is leaving to run for the Republican nomination for governor in 2018. “I want to officially announce that I am a candidate for the 17th Senatorial District in the state of Tennessee,” Pody told The Tennessee Star in an exclusive interview. “Senator Mae Beavers is going to be running for governor, and she’s going to make an awesome conservative governor. That leaves her seat open, and I want to make sure that seat is filled by a good conservative individual. Tennessee Star Poll: 57 Percent of GOP Primary Voters Support Constitutional Carry

A significant majority of likely Republican primary voters in Tennessee support constitutional carry, according to results of The Tennessee Star Poll released this week. When asked, “In 2018, the Tennessee General Assembly is also expected to reconsider a bill that would allow Tennesseans to carry firearms without obtaining a state issued permit, which is commonly known as ‘Constitutional Carry.’ Do you support or oppose Constitutional Carry in Tennessee? ” 57 percent of likely Republican primary voters said they favored it, while only 32 percent said they opposed it: 38.5% strongly support 19.1% somewhat support  11.9% somewhat oppose  20.8% strongly oppose  9.8% Don’t know/unsure The poll of 1,007 likely Republican primary voters was conducted by Triton Polling and Research in an automated (IVR) telephone survey between May 31 and June 5 and has a margin of error of 3.1 percent. “Based on my experience talking to people and explaining constitutional carry, I think 57 percent understates the support for constitutional carry in Tennessee,” John Harris, executive director of the Tennessee Firearms Association, tells The Tennessee Star. “This is because people think constitutional carry will eliminate the possibility to get handgun permits for reciprocity purposes in other states,” he adds. “Even with…

  The Tennessee Pastors Network announced today that they are encouraging Tennessee legislators, and candidates for Governor, to embrace legislation signed into law in Texas on May 19, 2017 which shields pastors sermons from subpoenas issued by state courts. “Religious freedom is one of our most cherished rights, and pastors in Tennessee should be assured that they will not be targeted for government interference, threats or intimidation for what they prepare and deliver from their pulpits,” said Tennessee Pastors Network President Dale Walker in calling for Tennessee to follow Texas’ lead The Texas bill was authored by state Sen. “The Republican majority in the Tennessee legislature continues to show more allegiance to LGBT activists and the corporate interests that fear them than to the valid concerns of parents, pastors and people of faith,” Dale Walker, Chair of the Tennessee Pastors Network, tells The Tennessee Star, after a bill that “requires students in public schools and public institutions of higher education to use restrooms and locker rooms that are assigned to persons of the same sex as that shown on the students’ birth certificates” failed to make it out of a State Senate committee on Wednesday. “We intend to make sure that Tennessee voters are well informed and fully engaged when they head to the polls next year.
