Tennessee’s Democratic Representatives Cohen and Cooper Fear-Monger Voters Ahead of Election Day

Representatives Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) and Jim Cooper (D-TN-05) tweeted that voters should be fearful heading into Election Day. Both representatives issued their remarks on the day before the election.

The tweets from Cohen and Cooper reflect one of two messages: encouraging individuals to submit their votes and questioning the integrity of the election. The day before Election Day, Cohen suggested that the election’s aftermath should be feared.

Tennessee’s Only Democrats in House, Steve Cohen and Jim Cooper, Announce Support for Articles of Impeachment

Tennessee’s only two Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, Reps Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Jim Cooper (TN-05), have announced their decisions to support the two Articles of Impeachment against President Trump, introduced in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Both Cohen and Cooper represent safely Democratic districts. Cohen represents Memphis, while Cooper represents Nashville. The remaining seven members of the Tennessee Congressional delegation are all Republicans, and are all strongly behind the president. Cooper’s announcement came on Tuesday, while Cohen’s came on Wednesday night as members of the House Judiciary Commitee debated articles of impeachment. During that hearing, Cohen, who sits on that committee, declared President Donald Trump used his office “for personal political gain.” “When President Trump, for his own personal political gain, asked for a favor from a foreign leader, he did exactly what our Founders feared most — he invited the influence of a foreign power into our elections. This is one of the primary reasons the Founders placed impeachment in our Constitution. Trump’s subversive and illegal actions in seeking foreign interference is an insult to the “Constitution and to free and fair elections,” according to Cohen. Furthermore, the representative believes Trump’s “attempt to subvert…

Scott DesJarlais: ‘Radical Element’ Behind Impeachment Inquiry

Members of Tennessee’s Congressional delegation were quick to opine Tuesday on Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment inquiry of U.S. Republican President Donald Trump. Democrats endorsed the impeachment inquiry, while Republicans vowed to support the president. Scott DesJarlais, a Republican representing Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District, sent out a press release Tuesday saying this is not what the American people want. “Before and after last year’s midterm elections, a few of us predicted Democrat leadership would fall prey to their most strident members and move to impeach President Trump.  Sadly, having accomplished nothing but fruitless investigations in this Congress, Speaker Pelosi has allowed this radical element to dictate another partisan investigation,” DesJarlais said. “An overwhelming majority of the American public rejects impeachment. However, some individuals, who still cannot accept that their candidate lost the 2016 presidential election, are pursuing a purely political agenda. Congress must reject it.” Meanwhile, Steve Cohen, a Democrat who represents Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District, had a different mindset. “Today is a historic day for our nation. The President has breached his oath, violated the law and risked our national security. This week we learned that the President has abused his power and broken the law by pressuring a foreign government…

Tennessee Firearms Association Says Walmart Is No Friend to Gun Owners

The executive director of the Tennessee Firearms Association wants all gun owners in the state to know about what he calls “Walmart’s increasing anti-gun stance.” In a column posted on the TFT website Tuesday, Executive Director John Harris said Walmart is no longer “a truly ‘American’ store. “Even worse – if that is possible – all gun owners should know that Walmart has openly stated that it is now in ‘partnership’ on gun control issues with Everytown for Gun Safety which appears to be one of Michael Bloomberg’s ‘shell’ gun control entities that pushes for sweeping gun bans and Red Flag laws!” Harris wrote. “So, what is Walmart telling Americans? It is saying it is now in partnership with the gun control fanatic – Michael Bloomberg – and the various corporate shells that he apparently creates to hide his participation in the gun control and gun abatement movement from the public.” As ABC News reported Tuesday, Walmart officials announced they will limit the sales of guns and ammunition at their stores. The store will also discontinue sales of certain types of rifle ammunition. People on the left side of the police aisle were elated with Walmart’s choice. On his…

Steve Cohen of Memphis Compares Republicans to Nazis Yet Again

U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen, a Democrat representing Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District, reportedly warned that U.S. Republican President Donald Trump’s recent rally in North Carolina was on par with Nazism. Cohn reportedly made these remarks on an MSNBC interview this past week. Cohen took issue with Trump’s criticism of U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, representing Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District. “It was more reminiscent of Germany during the beginnings of the Hitler regime. People yelling send her back. That was un-American,” The Washington Times quoted Cohen as saying. “Republicans should stand up and let people know they are for the security of all Americans, for all American citizens, and nobody should be sent back. Nobody should be encouraged to be sent back.” As The Tennessee Star has reported, these are not the only hyperbolic remarks Cohen has made this year. This calendar year alone, Cohen has already expressed his delight over the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives no longer requiring people to say “so help me God” under oath. At the time of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in France earlier this year, Cohen used the occasion to say Trump is “torching the entire structure of government.” Among other outbursts, Cohen has also: • Said the…

Rep. Steve Cohen Wants Taxpayers to Pay to Reduce Memphis’ High Crime Rate

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, a Democrat representing Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District, says Memphis’ crime rate is too high and you, the federal taxpayer, must chip in to make it right. Last week, Cohen and U.S. Rep. Val Demings, a Democrat representing Florida’s 10th Congressional District, introduced the Safer Streets Act. They describe it as a new grant program that will help cities with high rates of violent crime. “The Safer Streets Act is intended to provide additional funding to address violent crime in places where the rate is significantly above the national average – places like Memphis,” Cohen said in a press release. “With these grants, local governments with crime rates four times the national average would be eligible for half of the funds; those with three times the national rate would be eligible for 20 percent of the funds and those with twice that national rate would be eligible for the remaining 10 percent of funds. The bill also creates an emergency fund for units of local government that have spikes of violent crime.” If the Safer Streets Act is enacted into law then the U.S. Department of Justice will administer grants to local jurisdictions to hire more law…

People Can Sue Steve Cohen of Memphis for Blocking Them on Twitter

Donald Trump and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are in legal trouble because they’ve reportedly blocked people on Twitter, but some Tennesseans might not realize Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen has done much the same thing. Cohen, a Democrat, represents Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District. As The Epoch Times reported, some people are suing Cortez for blocking them on Twitter. Members of Cohen’s office did not return The Tennessee Star’s request for comment Friday as whether anyone has sued him for blocking people on Twitter. The Star also wanted to know how many people Cohen has blocked on Twitter and whether he would reconsider his policy of blocking people. According to The Epoch Times, “an appeals court ruling has spurred multiple lawsuits against Cortez from people who say the lawmaker blocked their accounts on Twitter.” “One of the plaintiffs, Republican congressional candidate Joseph Saladino, is seeking ‘injunctive relief from the court’ so that he could be unblocked by the congresswoman’s official account,” the website reported. “I have officially filed my lawsuit against AOC for blocking me on Twitter.” Also, according to the website, The Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this month that U.S. Republican President Donald Trump violated the First Amendment when he blocked users from viewing…

Memphis’ Rep. Steve Cohen Uses Rape Analogy to Describe President Donald Trump

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, has reportedly made yet another remark that some people might take offense to, this time involving the topic of rape. According to various news outlets, Cohen recently complained that Republicans impeached former Democratic President Bill Clinton “over sex.” Cohen then accused U.S. Republican President Donald Trump of “raping” the country. Cohen’s office did not respond Wednesday to The Tennessee Star’s request for comment as to whether Cohen’s latest remark might have gone too far. Cohen reportedly made these comments during a recent Democrat Steering and Policy Committee meeting where Cohen demanded that Democrats impeach Trump. This calendar year alone, Cohen has already expressed his delight over the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives no longer requiring people to say “so help me God” under oath. At the time of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in France earlier this year, Cohen used the occasion to say Trump is “torching the entire structure of government.” Among other outbursts over the past several months, Cohen has also: • Said the Founding Fathers created the nation’s Electoral College as a way to hurt black people. • Pushed for a formal study on slavery reparations. • Co-sponsored the Green New…

Franklin Graham Not Happy with Steve Cohen of Memphis Over Democrats’ Decision to Shun God

Evangelist Franklin Graham is unhappy with the Democrats in Congress and with Tennessee Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen for shunning God. As The Tennessee Star reported, since the Democrats took control of the U.S. House of Representatives, people no longer must say “so help me God” under oath. This reportedly delights Cohen, who represents Memphis. On his Twitter page, Graham said,“Why has the Democratic Party turned its back on God? @RepCohen of TN said, ‘I think God belongs in religious institutions: in temple, in church, in cathedral, in mosque—but not in Congress.’” Why has the Democratic Party turned its back on God? @RepCohen of TN said, “I think God belongs in religious institutions: in temple, in church, in cathedral, in mosque—but not in Congress.” 1/3 https://t.co/EbrkovjXu8 — Franklin Graham (@Franklin_Graham) May 14, 2019 “We need more of God, not less! What @RepCohen is suggesting is what Communism did in Eastern Europe & is still doing in places around the world like Cuba. Communism only allows worship inside approved churches. Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen Is Happy Witnesses No Longer Must Say ‘So Help Me God’ During Oath

People who testify before the U.S. House of Representatives no longer must say “so help me God” under oath, and this reportedly delights Tennessee Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen of Memphis. As this week’s New York Times reported, House Democrats altered the oath after they assumed a majority over Republicans in January. Cohen, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, reportedly said the following about people who want “so help me God” to come back: “I think God belongs in religious institutions: in temple, in church, in cathedral, in mosque — but not in Congress,” the paper quoted Cohen as saying. “And God doesn’t want to be used.” In a rebuttal, Chattanooga Times Free Press columnist Clint Cooper told his readers the Founding Fathers used God in many of the country’s founding documents. “Cohen, at that point, either was misreading history or was sorry he was called out for not having witnesses say ‘so help me God,’ like a child spotted by the teacher while shooting spitballs in class,” Cooper wrote. According to Cooper, Cohen refused a Republican congressman’s request to include “so help me God” at a Feb 28 committee hearing.…
