Timothy Hill Wins Republican Nomination for House District 3

Timothy Hill won the Republican primary for House District 3 by a landslide in Thursday’s special primary election, according to official election results released by the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office.

House District 3 includes parts of Carter, Hawkins, and Sullivan counties as well as all of Johnson County.

Hill (pictured above) received a total of 1,666 votes (81.43 percent) while Stacy Vaughan, a Republican also vying for the house seat, received 380 votes (18.57 percent). Lori Love, who ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary, received 86 votes.

Hill was appointed as the interim state representative for District 3 during a special called meeting by the Johnson County Commission in May, as previously reported by The Tennessee Star.

Hill was appointed at the time to succeed former Republican State Representative Scotty Campbell, who resigned from his post in April over sexual harassment allegations. Hill was succeeded by Campbell after representing Tennessee’s 3rd House District from 2012 to 2020. Hill served in the position of House majority whip during his time in the Tennessee General Assembly.

Governor Bill Lee issued a Writ of Election shortly after Campbell’s resignation, ordering a special election to fill the seat’s vacancy. Now, with this week’s primary results finalized, Hill and Love will face off in the special general election scheduled for August 3, with early voting beginning July 14.

Americans for Prosperity Action – Tennessee (AFP Action-TN) congratulated Hill on his victory this week, calling him a “friend to freedom” and adding, “We look forward to working with you again at [the Tennessee General Assembly].”

In less than a month, team members at AFP Action-TN, according to the organization, “knocked 5k plus doors, ensured voters saw more than 50k impressions online & delivered 15k mail pieces to households to ensure a friend to freedom was elected to the TN State House!”
