Expelled Nashville Democrat Justin Jones Easily Wins TN House Special Election in District 52

Democrat Justin Jones (D-Nashville) easily won the Tennessee House of Representatives District 52 special election on Thursday, defeating his Republican opponent Laura Nelson.

With 93 percent of the vote counted as of 9:00 pm, Jones had 77 percent of the vote, while Nelson had 23 percent of the vote.  The raw vote total was  votes4,801 for Jones and 1,381 for Nelson out of a total of 6,182 votes cast.

Jones was expelled from the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year after he and two other Democrats commandeered the House Floor to demand gun control three days after the March 27 shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville.

The Nashville Metro City Council soon voted to reinstate Jones to the State House on an interim basis. After his reinstatement, Jones led a large group of protesters organized by far-left non-profits and marched several blocks to the Capitol where took the oath of office.

In the days following his reinstatement, Jones attempted to bring a child-sized casket into the Tennessee House Chamber to protest in favor of gun control before he was forced to drop the prop.

Jones has a long history of public forays in Nashville, as extensively covered by The Tennessee Star over the years. Five years ago, for example, Jones was arrested after disrupting a rally held by then-U.S. Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn. Less than a year after that, Jones was banned from the State Capitol building after allegedly throwing a cup of coffee at then-Speaker of the House Glen Casada (R-Franklin).

Yes, Every Kid

Despite this, the Nashville representative has received nationwide support from many prominent Democrats, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Jones, along with State Representatives Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) and Justin Pearson (D-Memphis), even visited the White House and met with both Biden and Harris.

Thursday’s special election for House District 52 coincided with both the 2023 Metro Nashville General Election and Tennessee House District 51 Special Primary.

A subpar representative that represents no one but himself. The larger assembly needs to cut him no slack. The next time he disrupts the work of the people he should be expelled again. This will happen as he has no accomplishments, nothing other than his 15 minutes of fame for essentially shutting down the assembly. To the voters of Nashville, you are not represented, this vote says as much about you as it does of him.
