In new fundraising results, Democrats are leading in congressional midterm races in Virginia’s 2nd, 7th, and 10th Congressional Districts. The GOP hasn’t yet picked nominees for those races, but State Senator Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach), Derrick Anderson, and Prince William County Supervisor Jeanine Lawson are leading in funds raised for races in CD 2, 7, and 10, respectively, according to data compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project.
Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07) raised $4.1 million in 2021 and the first quarter of 2022, with nearly $3.9 million cash on hand. Representative Elaine Luria (D-VA-02) raised nearly $4.1 million in the same period, and has nearly $3.2 million cash on hand. In that same period, Representative Jennifer Wexton raised nearly $1.7 million, and has just over $3 million cash on hand.
Republicans are lining up to retake all three seats. Kiggans has raised the most of any Republican candidates, with almost $1.1 million in 2021 and the first quarter of 2022; she has $592,553 cash on hand. She’s facing Jarome Bell, who raised $424,099 in that period, and has $9,433 cash on hand. Despite hinting at joining the race, former Congressman Scott Taylor did not file.
In CD 10, Lawson raised $843,284, and has $545,734 on hand. Mike Clancy has raised $375,928, with $286,129 on hand. Hung Cao raised $314,316 just in the first quarter of 2022; he’s got $223,711 on hand.
Derrick Anderson edged out state State Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania) in CD-7 GOP fundraising, with $521,023 earned in 2021 and first-quarter 2022. He has $371,281 on hand. Reeves raised $519,238, and has $390,407 on hand. Crystal Vanuch raised $483, 589 in the first quarter of 2022 alone, and has $468,092 cash on hand, more than either Reeves or Anderson. Yesli Vega raised $356,810 in the first quarter of 2022, and has $293,997 on hand.
Republicans will vote in the June 21 primary to nominate candidates in districts 2 and 7. District 10 Republicans will hold a canvass on May 21.

All this talk of fundraising is laughable. There are signs on every corner of every street in the county for this candidate or that one. Do you want to know how I chose my candidates? ONE of them took the time to call me personally and discuss the issues of our county and his platform. When I told him I had been trying to find out who my candidates were so I could do my homework before voting, he gave me some names and a little background. He also made sure that I got plenty of party mailers for the candidates. I’m a diehard party supporter at the moment, since the other side is nuts. I knew nothing about my candidates, though. You want to get votes? Pick up the phone and call your intended constituents. Tell them who you are and answer their questions. That’s how you get votes. McDonald’s has a sign. Doesn’t mean I’m going to choose to eat there.
