Commentary: No, Zelenskyy Is Not Churchill

Fox News’ Bret Baier, who, like Bill O’Reilly before him, has used his perch as a television personality to become a writer of history books (and, like O’Reilly, co-writes these history books with a “collaborator,” formerly known as a ghostwriter), writes on the Fox News website about the “parallels” between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the late U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Baier notes the parallels — both addressed a joint session of Congress during Christmastime even as their nation’s capitals were being bombed; both showed courage in leading their people against an aggressor nation; both were named Time’s Man of the Year; and both took defiant stands against more powerful enemies that were besieging their countries. But these parallels are all superficial. The stakes are far different. Churchill saved Western civilization. Zelenskyy is attempting to save Ukraine’s independence.

Commentary: America Gone Mad

After three weeks in Europe and extensive discussions with dozens of well-informed and highly placed individuals from most of the principal Western European countries, including leading members of the British government, I have the unpleasant duty of reporting complete incomprehension and incredulity at what Joe Biden and his collaborators encapsulate in the peppy but misleading phrase, “We’re back.”

As one eminent elected British government official put it, “They are not back in any conventional sense of that word. We have worked closely with the Americans for many decades and we have never seen such a shambles of incompetent administration, diplomatic incoherence, and complete military ineptitude as we have seen in these nine months. We were startled by Trump, but he clearly knew what he was doing, whatever we or anyone else thought about it. This is just a disintegration of the authority of a great nation for no apparent reason.”

Seventy-Five Years Later: D-Day Remembered by Those Who Were There

  Seventy-five years ago today, the United States joined with Great Britain, the free French forces, and Canada to mount a bold invasion of the beachhead in Normandy, France as a last-ditch effort to gain a foothold in Europe against the conquering forces of Hitler’s Germany. To commemorate this significant event, President Donald Trump read the prayer President Franklin Delano Roosevelt read over the radio while the troops stormed the Normandy beaches during his Great Britain visit Wednesday. Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. They will need Thy blessings, for the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. But we shall return again and again. And we know that by thy grace and the righteous of our cause our sons will triumph. Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.   When Winston Churchill mouthed these eternal words, his nation’s life expectancy was about six months. All of Western Civilization, all of Christiandom, seemed doomed. Nearly three-quarters of a century ago on June 6, 1944 the United States joined with Great Britain, the free French forces, and Canada to mount a bold invasion of the beachhead in Normandy, France as a last-ditch effort to gain a foothold in Europe against the conquering forces of Hitler’s Germany. The 160,000-soldier seaborne operation would mark a massive pivot in the Allies’ defense against the Nazis and the bloodthirsty Axis. The National World War II Museum has a developed a moving collection of photos, reports, and personal accounts of that day by the men who were there: For over two and a half years the Allies planned and gathered their military strength to hurl into the decisive amphibious invasion of northern France and strike a mortal blow against the empire of Nazi Germany. In anticipation, Adolf Hitler stockpiled reserves across French coastlines into the Atlantic Wall defenses, determined to drive the Allied forces back into the sea. There will be no second chance for the Allies: the fate of their cause hangs upon this decisive day. Winston Churchill Has Much To Teach Us Today, Tennessee Historian Tells Nashville Homeschool Convention

  The life of Winston Churchill is rich with lessons about perseverance, a speaker at a Nashville homeschool convention said Friday. Bill Potter, a historian at Landmark Events in Columbia, Tennessee, spoke at the Teach Them Diligently convention being held this weekend at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. Landmark Events offers historical  tours, conferences and retreats from a Christian perspective. Potter said Churchill, the conservative prime minister of Britain during World War II, persevered despite many hardships and setbacks in his life. The amount of perseverance he cultivated was extraordinary, Potter said. “It’s not something most people automatically have.” While not an orthodox Christian, Churchill was taught to appreciate biblical principles by his governess, who he greatly respected. He was largely ignored by his parents who sent him off to boarding school, where he wrote them letters asking them to visit him to no avail, Potter said. Churchill later served in the armed forces as a soldier and also worked as a war correspondent. He went on to become a member of Parliament, where his concerns about the growing power of Hitler in Germany were dismissed by other government leaders.
