Brewer: Mayor Cooper, Fairgrounds Racetrack Among the Losers this Week as Yarbro and NashvilleSC Tapped as Winners

Recovering journalist Clint Brewer appeared on The Tennessee Star Report Thursday morning, June 23, on TalkRadio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC to discuss the week’s winners and losers.

TRANSCRIPT

Michael Patrick Leahy: Clint, who are the winners? Who are the losers, this week?

Clint Brewer: Well, we’re gonna keep it local. I like local.

We’re gonna keep it local.

I’m gonna start with – and this is not empirical because there are no numbers out there really, though we’re about to have campaign finance disclosures filed at the end of the month – I’m gonna say that in the national mayor’s race in this moment, I think not necessarily gonna win the election, but I think maybe one the week is State Senator Jeff Yarbro.

I have been paying attention to his social media, to his message you know, and just to the aggressiveness of the campaign as it’s taken off.

And he’s had a good couple of weeks and I think he’s performing well these forums. I think he’s really sharpened his message.

He’s got a really good clip out there on social media about public safety, and I think he’s in this moment. He’s having a good turn to his campaign.

Michael Patrick Leahy: Well, there you go. And by the way, Senator Yarbro, you know that invitation we have for you to come here in studio – we  continue to issue that invitation.

Clint Brewer: And then the second winner for the week, which is ironic because they actually lost their last game – but NashvilleSC our local major league soccer team just went on a 10 game winning streak, which you don’t hear a lot in Nashville about our sports teams. And they’re having a great season. They’re championship contenders. They’ve got the league MVP. Just having a great run right now.

Michael Patrick Leahy: This shows you how good, how good our friendship is. Because there you are talking about soccer!

Clint Brewer: Well, soccer’s popular in this town, man. All right. Popular in this state.

Losers.

This is sort of a joint anointment of losers for this week.

I think Nashville Mayor John Cooper and the Fairgrounds race project are on the ropes.

I think you know, they had a Metro Council vote last week to table the funding mechanism. It lost 13 to 15 with two abstentions and nine people not in attendance. So one has to wonder if that was a loss or not for that, you know, it would’ve would’ve killed the project. The district councilman for that area is very against the project. The neighbors are very against the project.

The support for it based on that vote seems pretty soft. I mean, I think they’ll go down swinging, but it’s not a good set of indicators.

Michael Patrick Leahy: John Cooper. We haven’t heard much of Mayor Cooper?

Clint Brewer: Well, he’s a lame duck – on his way out.

Michael Patrick Leahy: He doesn’t seem to be unhappy about being on the way out.

Clint Brewer: I not sure about happy or unhappy, but he didn’t have a path to victory.

Michael Patrick Leahy: Do you have other losers or is that it?

Clint Brewer: That’s it.

Michael Patrick Leahy: Okay. I have two.

So. This is not a winner or loser, but it is sort of an observation.

Do you remember TJ Ducklow?

Clint Brewer: TJ Ducklow? Oh, sure.

Michael Patrick Leahy: He’s going back to the Biden campaign.

I suppose you could call him a winner for that, right? Because he left. I mean, this is not you calling him a winner – but he left in disgrace from the Biden White House, like, a week into it as deputy press secretary after apparently making public that he was verbally threatening some reporters. You know, he got fired from that job and landed on, he’s from Nashville, landed on his feet here, was the communications director for Mayor Cooper.

And now with the Biden campaign – so disastrously bad – and he apparently had a good track record on the campaign. He’s going back to work on the Biden campaign.

Clint Brewer: Do you think his desk in the basement still there?

Michael Patrick Leahy: I was gonna say something like that. But, but your line, your line is very good.

That’s a very good line. I do wanna say today we still got your desk and the basement and TJ you’re welcome to come in anytime. You know, they haven’t come in here and talked to us, but it’s sort of understandable.

But you know, I actually have some empathy for TJ in this regard.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer. And so he’s been fighting that for a long time. Native Nashvillian.

And although his ideology is far left – he’s a mid-thirties guy.

Clint Brewer: Tough, tough young man.

Michael Patrick Leahy: Yeah, you gotta hope that that at least his health does well, although I imagine there’s not much on the political arena we would agree with at all.

Oh, I got another loser for you.

You would agree with this? Adam Schiff.

It’s censured for, for being a liar – for being a lying liar about the Trump hoax.

213 to 209.

Now goes before the ethics committee, and of course he says, ‘Oh, you know, I wear it as a badge of honor.’

Well, you can say that, Adam Schiff. But you know, it’s–

Clint Brewer: Well, lemme tell you, I agree with you. If they start handing out censures for being a liar in Washington DC they’re gonna have to hire, like, a local trophy shop or something to create plaques for all these guys to track the censures.

I mean, they’re have to hand out certificates or something.

Michael Patrick Leahy: I’ll add another kind of loser for you. This is me, not you. I think the mainstream media’s lack of coverage of Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s campaign.

I mean, he gave a major speech on foreign policy on – and he is a Kennedy.

He gave a major speech on foreign policy in Manchester, New Hampshire on Tuesday night.

Not a mention of it in mainstream media.

Clint Brewer: Was there, was there a TikTok about it or was there a Twitter thread about it?

Michael Patrick Leahy: We, we have been searching diligently to find any coverage on it, and so we’re gonna have to write our own story about it.

Clint Brewer: Kennedy on TikTok might have some implications.

Michael Patrick Leahy: Clint, thanks so much for joining us. Thanks for having me. All right. We’ll be back with Roger Simon after this.
