Founder and CEO of the Western Journal, Author Floyd Brown Talks About His New Book Counter Punch

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed author Floyd Brown to the newsmaker line to talk about his new book Counter Punch.

Leahy: On the newsmaker Line, our very good friend, Floyd Brown. He’s an author, he’s a political guy and he was the CEO of US Radio Network. He’s also the founder and CEO of The Western Journal. It’s been around since 2008.

I’m sure our listeners have seen The Western Journal stories, a very good news site online. He’s the author of a new book called Counter Punch: An Unlikely Alliance of Americans Fighting Back for Faith and Freedom, my good friend, Floyd Brown. Welcome to The Tennessee Star Report, Floyd.

Brown: It’s great to be with you, and yes, we’re at a tipping point and I think we’re going to see a lot of change in the political landscape in the next two years, and I wanted to get out there and talk about it ahead of the changes.

Leahy: You call this the Christian answer—the answer to Saul Alinsky’s, Rules for Radicals. Tell us why.

Brown: First of all I’ve been involved in politics for 40 years. I’ve been involved in four-wave elections, if you could imagine that. The Reagan Revolution when I was in my twenties, the Contract for America in 1994 and then the Tea Party movement, and finally the MAGA movement. And we’ve seen all of these movements come, but none of them have systemically changed America.

And so things have continually gotten worse and yet Americans in their way have been trying to push back and fight back against this overreach from the uni-party in Washington D.C. I think finally we’re at a point where people are coming together in really interesting and different ways where we are going to see a new kind of wave election in two years that brings together different groups that we’ve never seen working together before.

And the tipping point is coming because I believe that black men are tired of being on the Democrat plantation. I live in the southwest, and Hispanics and Mexicans are tired of being on the Democratic plantation.

We’re seeing huge shifts in the way the electorate is looking at things, and it’s leaving the Democrat Party as just a bunch of white liberals from the northeast that are completely detached from the rest of the country.

Leahy: What alliance specifically do you see coming up that is unlikely on a particular issue that will have an impact on the 2024 presidential election?

Brown: First of all recent polling shows that people don’t believe this narrative that global warming is caused just by humans and all of these billions and actually trillions of dollars that the Biden administration has been paying to billionaires to try and force on us this green energy change.

I think people have had enough of it. There are so many of these false narratives. I think a lot of the narratives around COVID, when people look back on being held prisoner in their house for over a year, and they say, you know what? That really didn’t do anything for the country.

I perceive that it’s changing different groups, and we’re going to see a different complexion here. Imagine this, Donald Trump can go into the black community and especially speak to black men right now, and he can say, you know what? This justice system is rigged.

I know because I’ve seen it firsthand. There is a changing political landscape that I think people right now just don’t appreciate and it’s going to blow up the model that has kept the Biden Democrats in power for so long.

Leahy: But here’s the problem. In 2020 the Democrats perfected the legal, extralegal, and possibly illegal tradecraft, shall we say of ballot harvesting. They’ve changed gears and they’re doing it again in 2024, in a different election and in different methodologies. What are the Republicans doing? What are these alliances doing to fight back against those ballot harvesting practices?

Brown: First of all, I should be very clear. I don’t think it is a Republican-Democrat thing. I believe that a vast majority of the Republican Party is nearly as corrupt as the Democrat Party. We basically have what I call in my book, the uni-party, where we have a lot of political theater in Washington, D.C where they pretend to argue and then they always come together and pass some huge bill that’s bipartisan.

And I actually warn people, if they tell you a bipartisan bill is coming through, grab your wallet because they’re coming right at average Americans. This has been a long-standing attempt to basically steal wealth from middle-class Americans and give it to a big elite. I think people are waking up to that across party lines, so I don’t necessarily see it as a Republican-Democrat thing.

I believe it’s going to be so big that the fraud that they are involved in, and yes, they are involved in fraud, I myself believed that the 2020 election was stolen and the 2022 election was stolen and that even earlier than that, in 2018, had a lot of really bad issues. I think this is going to be different because they can steal it at the margin, but at a certain point, it becomes too big to steal and people understand that.

Weber: I think it’s funny to hear you say that because that’s something that I tell people all the time when they’re commenting on, the Republicans this or the Democrats that. And I harken back to when I was growing up in northeast Pennsylvania watching the WWE and you had Sergeant Slaughter versus the Iron Sheik, and they hated each other until they got caught on the New Jersey Parkway snorting cocaine together and then pulled over.

You then start to realize that this is all getting you and me mad at each other. And the reality is we’re much more united. And I was thinking on the way here today, too, as we keep hearing in the media how the whole country is radically divided.

I go to these events, and I go to these weddings and these small towns in Murfreesboro and all around Tennessee, and I look and I see transgender people next to gay people, next to black people, next to white people, next to Hispanic people all seeming to make it work and seeming to get along. So it doesn’t match the narrative that we’re constantly being threatened with.

Brown: And that’s the keyword, narrative. And that’s what I spend a lot of time in my book doing is dealing with these false narratives. And one of them is that Americans all hate one another.

Weber: Yes.

Brown: They want tribalism because it increases their power and strips average people of power. And it’s all about making people feel isolated and alone and powerless.
