The mass vaccination site in Ohio will be offering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine next week, the Ohio Department of Health announced on Thursday.
Ohio’s mass vaccination site, located at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, will be distributing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to anyone age 18 or older from May 11 through May 17. The clinic accepts both walk-in and booked appointments.
The mass vaccination clinic is currently scheduled to be administering vaccines through May 31, although the ODH said it would extend vaccination if necessary.
Ohio vaccine providers were allowed to resume administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in late April. Distribution of the vaccine was originally suspended earlier in April due to several cases of blood clotting that appeared to be related to the vaccine.
“Now, a comprehensive analysis by the independent medical professionals on the ACIP has resulted in the recommendation that the benefits of Johnson & Johnson vaccine outweigh the risks, and that vaccine administration resume,” Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement announcing the vaccine was allowed to be distributed again. “The CDC and FDA have accepted those recommendations, lifting the pause on the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Providers in Ohio are permitted to immediately resume administering Johnson & Johnson vaccines in Ohio, provided they continue to follow all guidance by the CDC and FDA.”
More 4.8 million people in Ohio have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine or roughly 41 percent of the state, according to data from the ODH.
The bracket that has the highest percentage vaccinated is Ohioans ages 70 to 74, with a little more than 80 percent being vaccinated.
