Nearly a month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, for which Democrats blame skyrocketing gas prices nationwide, gas in Ohio remains at more than $4.00 per gallon on average.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price for a gallon of gas in Ohio has climbed three cents in the past week, from $4.01 per gallon to $4.04 per gallon. That’s only about 10 cents less than the state’s record high of $4.15 per gallon, recording in May of 2015.
A month ago, gas prices were $3.33 per gallon on average.
Democrats have scapegoated Russia for the rising gas prices, despite the clear upward trend since the beginning of the Biden presidency.
A year ago, just after Biden took office, the average price for a gallon of gas in Ohio was $2.67.
“Today I’ll vote to ban U.S. dollars from funding Putin’s war machine. Now we must do everything in our power to shield working people from Putin’s price hike at the pump by fully restoring America’s energy independence and passing a working-class tax cut,” Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH-13) said on Twitter earlier this month.
Ryan is also running for U.S. Senate.
But the United States only imports about three and a half percent of its oil from Russia.
During former President Donald J. Trump’s administration, one major goal was energy independence.
Progress on the Keystone XL pipeline, which would import 830,000 barrels per day of crude oil from Canada to the United States, was canceled on Biden’s first day in office. He officially revoked the permit of its builder last June.
Other states have dealt with the skyrocketing gas prices by eliminating their gas taxes.
Georgia did just that earlier this month, and Georgians have a seen a 16 cent per gallon decrease in gas prices over the past week.
The Peach State’s Governor, Brian Kemp (R), said the blame for the rise in prices goes to President Biden.
“President Biden took office in January of 2021, and to understand why we are in this current state of record-high inflation and costs to the average American family, people can simply track his first year of misguided policy decisions,” he said, as reported by The Georgia Star News.
