Rep. Tim Ryan Announces Run for US Senate

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) announced on Monday that he is running for the U.S. Senate.

Ryan currently serves in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s 13th District. He is on the House Appropriations Committee and is the co-Chairman of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus. Ryan was first elected to the U.S. House in 2002 and previously served in the Ohio state Senate.

Ryan is running to replace Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), who announced in January that he would not be running for reelection.

The representative has worked to align himself with blue collar workers.

“My experience has been just focusing on the workers, their families, the issues that are important to them, recognizing how hard they are working and still not getting by and getting ahead,” Ryan told CNN. “That is what people are going to vote for.”

Ryan also said that he wants to “cut workers in on the deal.”

“I’ll work with anyone to rebuild our economy, but I will never sell out our workers,” Ryan said in a video announcing his candidacy.

Ryan previously ran a long-shot presidential campaign, dropping out in October, 2019, to run for reelection to his House seat.

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Paduchik said that Ryan’s policies have contradicted his claims of supporting workers.

“For years, Tim Ryan has tried to pass himself off as a champion for the working class. Sadly, his support of job killing policies show he is just another fast-talking politician looking for a bigger job,” Paduchik said in a statement released Monday.

Paduchik said that “Ryan himself says he is in ‘lockstep’ with progressives,” citing Ryan’s support of open border policies, the Green New Deal, and the Biden-Harris infrastructure plan.

“Mr. Ryan’s support of radical left-wing policies do not represent the values of Ohio’s working men and women,” Paduchik said. “Ohioans won’t buy this charade.”
