A U.S. Senate candidate in Ohio is speaking out against a provision in the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion proposed budget that would allow amnesty for some illegal aliens.
“Joe Biden’s crisis at the Southern border is already grossly out of hand, and the Democrat plan to grant mass amnesty to illegal immigrants in their budget will only make things worse,” J.D. Vance said in a press release.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-07) confirmed Wednesday that the budget bill includes a pathway to citizenship for “Dreamers, TPS, essential workers, and farmworkers.”
“Dreamers” is a colloquial term for recipients of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provided temporary residence for illegal alien children who came to the United States with their parents. Former President Donald J. Trump attempted to end that program, but faced legal backlash from civil rights groups. Since then, President Joe Biden has re-upped the program.
TPS is a separate designation, which stands for Temporary Protected Status, for illegal aliens who have fled to the United States “if conditions in [their home] country meet statutory requirements regarding ongoing armed conflict, natural disasters (including epidemics), or other extraordinary and temporary conditions,” according to United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS).
But Vance argues that amnesty begets more illegal border crossings.
“Every time we grant mass amnesty, we invite millions of additional aliens to break our laws,” he said. “The open-border policy of President Biden and his Democrat allies have already led to rising crime, lower wages for American citizens and a drug epidemic crushing too many Ohio families. Instead of solving these problems, Democrats aim to pour gasoline on them.”
“The Democrat mass amnesty scheme is completely irresponsible, and the people of Ohio deserve better leadership than this,” he finished.
Vance is the author of best-seller “Hillbilly Elegy,” the founder of a venture capital firm, and a political commentator who is a frequent guest on cable news.
He is one of 11 Republican candidates to replace outgoing Sen. Rob Portman (R) in 2022.
