Senator JD Vance Urges Ohioans to Vote No on Issue 1

Ohio U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) urged Ohioans to vote against Issue 1 during early voting and on the general election ballot November 7.

If Ohio voters pass Issue 1, which is a constitutional amendment, the state will allow for late-term abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, nullifying Ohio’s current law which permits abortions up until 22 weeks of pregnancy for any reason.

After the allotted 22 weeks, Ohio law contains exceptions to protect the mother’s life and prevent “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function” of the mother, however, passage of Issue 1 would also nullify the law after week 22 of pregnancy.

“Hey guys, I’m here at the Hamilton County Board of Elections and I just voted no on Issue 1,” Vance said in a video posted to social media over the weekend. “Really the question is – do we really want unlimited abortion up until the moment of birth? The answer is no. Do we want to block parents from participating in the decision of their kids? The answer is no, and the way to make that happen is to vote no on Issue 1.

“People are out here fighting for it. You’ve got to make your voices heard. It’s early voting – don’t get caught on election day unable to vote – a kid gets sick, a parent gets sick – let’s get out there and vote no on Issue 1,” Vance added.

Vance joins many Republicans in urging voters to vote no on Issue 1 including Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine.

Earlier this month, the governor and first lady appeared in a 30-second advertisement video urging voters to vote against Issue 1, saying the amendment “just goes too far.”

“I know Ohioans are divided on the issue of abortion. But whether you’re pro-life or pro-choice, Issue 1 is just not right for Ohio,” the governor said, with the first lady adding, “Issue 1 just goes too far.”
