In a series of interviews, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) warned about an impending “new world order.” He specifically said an invasion of Ukraine from Russia would be an indicator of a new global order with China and Russia as the leaders.
On Fox News, Rubio joined Bret Baier and said that Russia is getting aggressive toward all of Eastern Europe.
“There [are two serious factors right now],” Rubio said. “There’s the invasion of Ukraine, which would be deeply problematic, because it would be returning to a world in which powerful countries can just take over their neighbors. That’s the claim Russia makes about Eastern Europe. [It’s] ultimately the claim China is making about Asia …[, that] all these states are supposed to be vassal states that are tributary states to them. [Russia’s acquisition of Ukraine] would be a big development.”
Similarly, Rubio said on Twitter that each of the aggressive nations are seeking regional control.
He said that America’s enemies are seeking a “world order where big powerful countries like them get to dominate their region. And the countries that are neighboring them are basically underneath and have to be under their power and in their control.”

Rubio then said that the United States needs to respond to Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine but not with military force.
“We need to respond to that,” Rubio said. “If there isn’t real consequences for doing that, then that would be admitting that this is okay, this is the world we’re going to live in. Now, that response is not going to be military force. We are not, and should not send American soldiers to Ukraine to fight Russia in a war. That’s not what we’re talking about.”
The Florida Capital Star reached out to the Rubio campaign and asked if the “new world order” had anything to do with the World Economic Forum’s public transformational effort called “The Great Reset.”
Rubio’s team said that the “new order” that Rubio mentioned was the one where countries regularly invaded one another, harkening back to a phrase once used by President George H.W. Bush in 1992.
