Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) took turns blasting the national jobs report amid rising prices and runaway inflation. According to the report, only 199,000 jobs were created in December.
“You look at the nation’s jobs numbers again, and another really dismal report. They were supposed to add over 400,000 jobs. There was only 199,000,” said DeSantis. “Just in Florida alone, we’ve been averaging 40, 50, 60 thousand jobs over the last four months.”
Scott was also poignant in his comments about the current economic state.
“Pure stupidity,” Scott said. “That’s the only explanation for the job numbers we are seeing from the (Joe) Biden admin. Push vaccine mandates, pay people not to work, totally fail to control COVID-19…this is what you get. Joe Biden’s failed socialist agenda is killing the American economy.”

Last month, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) also released a report showing Florida is one of the national leaders in creating jobs when most of the nation continues to flounder with mandates resulting in a slower post-pandemic economic recovery.
DEO said that Florida created 51,100 jobs out of the national total of 200,000. The numbers equate to one out of every four American jobs originating in Florida. DeSantis touted the numbers previously and said Florida is “holding down the fort.”
“The state by state numbers came out and Florida’s reporting creating on its own 51,100 jobs out of that 200,000,” DeSantis said. “We continue to lead the way in that. There’s a lot of problems going on when you look at inflation, what they’re doing in Washington. Everything is going up. It’s very difficult to keep up when things are rising this much.”
However, the national unemployment rate continues to drop and is now at 3.9 percent. The pre-pandemic level was 3.5 percent and grew as high as 14.8 percent in April 2020.
