Joe Biden wants to offer amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens. And Georgia’s senators are the only ones who can stop him – or provide him the votes to get it.
Incumbent Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue will face off against Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff Tuesday. If the Democrats win both Georgia runoffs, the Senate will be split 50-50, and Kamala Harris will hold the tie-breaking vote on a range of critical legislation, including an amnesty bill.
If Georgia’s Republican senators win, on the other hand, they can block Democrats’ schemes. Senators Loeffler and Perdue both have strong records on standing up against illegal immigration. Sen. Loeffler has an A+ rating from immigration reduction group NumbersUSA. Sen. Perdue also scores high marks on his legislative actions.
Both incumbents are worlds better on immigration than their Democratic opponents. Ossoff has called for amnestying many of the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the country. He also joins with his fellow Democrats in vilifying federal immigration agents while defending the law-breakers who come into our country illegally. Warnock has called our immigration system “desperately broken” and implied that more lenient, rather than stricter, border security measures are the best way forward.
In other words, neither of the Democratic challengers will provide so much as token resistance to Biden’s amnesty plan.
These issues matter to ordinary Georgians. Georgia has the seventh-highest concentration of illegal immigrants in the country, with nearly half a million living here. Their presence depresses wages and opportunities for citizens and legal residents.
The infamous case of Stillmore, Georgia’s Crider poultry-processing plant is telling: After federal agents rounded up 75 percent of Crider’s mostly illegal-immigrant workforce over a decade ago, Crider immediately raised wages to attract American workers. Those newly-hired workers also demanded improved working conditions – something the previous illegal workforce had no power to do.
Democrats – the supposed champions of the working man and woman – make a mockery of themselves when they defend illegal immigration, which victimizes the illegal immigrants who are often mistreated and underpaid as well as the Americans who are pushed out of the workforce.
For the sake of both groups, and the country as a whole, we need sound immigration policy – one that deports those who come here without permission – and respects American workers, whose jobs and wages often suffer from the surfeit of illegal workers.
If the Democrats get their way, what we’ll have instead is widespread amnesty, defunded border enforcement and nationwide support for “sanctuary cities” that refuse to aid in the enforcement of federal immigration law. Senators Loeffler and Perdue can provide the critical votes to prevent this – if they are reelected Tuesday.
