Kemp Leads GOP Gubernatorial Group in Response Against Tax Proposals

Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster led Republican governors in a response today in opposition to the $740 billion spending proposal to fix inflation.

“The Democrats’ solution to a 40-year high inflation is passing another reckless tax and spending spree to the tune of $74 billion, affecting Americans in every tax bracket,” the Republican gubernatorial coalition said in a statement Thursday.

The group said that Biden administration and the Democrats are in denial about the reality of the current economic situation.

“While denying a recession, Democrats want to raise taxes on businesses and manufacturers, which will force higher costs onto consumers, worsen inflation, and aggravate shortages,” they said.

Gov. Kemp said he is “pushing back” against Joe Biden and the Democrats’ reckless spending proposals.

“Make no mistake, this bill would negatively impact Americans in every income bracket. It will hurt working families struggling to pay for has, goods, and utilities,” Kemp said.

“This middle class tax increase is a slap in the face to hardworking Americans who are trying to weather Biden’s recession. @BrianKempGA will continue fighting alongside GOP governors to provide relief and ensure we stop this insanity in November,” Team Kemp tweeted on Thursday.

The action taken by the group comes in light of the recent attempts by Democrat governors to get Georgia businesses to their respective states.

Meanwhile, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) invited the recently canceled Music Midtown festival to relocate to the Tarheel State.

“Hey @MusicMidtown! Come on up to North Carolina. We’re ready to welcome you to one of our amazing outdoor spaces to help you host a fun and safe festival,” Governor Cooper said.

The Georgia Star News previously reported  New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) attempted to entice Netflix, Warner Brothers, and The Walt Disney Company to uproot and move to New Jersey with an offer of generous tax subsidies.

Besides Kemp and McMaster, governors from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming also joined in the effort.

“The governors of the aforementioned states will continue doing their part to alleviate the burden placed on citizens as a result of inflation – including actions like Governor Kemp’s suspension of the state’s motor fuel tax, tax refund, and state income tax cut – but the federal government must act sensibly and quickly to reverse course,” the gubernatorial group said.
