Metro Nashville is expanding COVID-19 testing hours, offering testing on the weekends for the month of January, starting Saturday.
The Metro Public Health Community notice stated that the Saturday hours of the site located at 350 28th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 32709 will be from 10am-2pm.
These hours are currently for the month of January only. It is unclear if the city will expand those hours beyond.
Testing demand has been high. On Monday, nearly 1,300 individuals were tested at the Metro testing centers close to 1,600 were tested on Tuesday. That is only the number of people tested at Metro testing sites. It does not include people who get tested at other sites, like pharmacies, doctor’s offices, at home, or other places.
According to Tennessee’s COVID-19 tracking data website, “Over the last 7 days, Davidson County has averaged 3,821.3 tests per day (55.0 tests per 10,000 residents per day). Over the last 7 days, the average percent positive was 35.6%.” That number represents all the tests conducted and reported in Davidson County, including the Metro and non-Metro numbers.
The website continues: “To date, Davidson County has 20,623.5 cases per 100,000 residents. Over the last 7 days (12/28-1/03) Davidson County had a daily case rate of 213.9 cases per 100,000 residents per day. Over the last 14 days (12/21-1/03), Davidson County has averaged 1,072.4 new cases reported per day.”
Nashville Mayor John Cooper tweeted that he was grateful to the Metro Health Department, Nashville Office of Emergency Management, and Meharry Medical College for “expanding COVID-19 testing and vaccinations on Saturdays during the month of January.”
As The Tennessee Star reported, there has been a total of 142,248 cases of COVID-19 in Davidson County since tracking began last year. Of those, 3,483 cases have required hospitalizations, while 1,384 – a little less than one percent – have succumbed to the disease.
