Former congressional candidate Taylor Keeney is helming Bold Dominion, a new Republican PAC that is starting out by supporting State Senator Siobhan Dunnavant (R-Henrico), and Delegates Emily Brewer (R-Suffolk), Carrie Coyner (R-Chesterfield), and Kim Taylor (R-Dinwiddie.)
“This PAC is going to be focused on getting the next generation more involved in supporting Republican candidates. It’s a shared experience among everyone on this board that we can do a better job getting more people involved in the process and provide additional support people in tough races by doing so,” Keeney told The Virginia Star.
“No one that is part of the PAC is getting paid, and every penny raised will go right back out to candidates. It’s going to be funded through events statewide – both a combination of direct fundraising events for candidates and ‘friend raiser’ events – and then distributed back out to candidates the PAC supports,” she said.
Legislators and candidates are preparing for the 2023 General Assembly campaigns. In addition to blocking Keeney’s congressional aspirations, redistricting has created new challenges for incumbents and new opportunities for other candidates. Other members of the leadership include Delegate Wren Williams (R-Patrick), Virginia GOP operatives, and former General Assembly candidates Nick Clemente and Elliott Harding.
“We know the formula for success in Virginia – good candidates, a strong message, hard work, and a broad base of support,” Keeney said in a press release. “We can increase our majority in the House of Delegates and win back the majority in the Senate, because Republicans are on the right side of the policy and messaging battle. We’re talking about what voters care about! Now, together, we will keep the enthusiasm from last fall going by tapping into our networks statewide to build an even bigger bench of support.”
The PAC has no link to Bold Dominion, a Virginia politics explainer podcast started over two years ago. Keeney said they weren’t aware of the podcast until after filing paperwork for the PAC.
“Sort of a drag that the creators of this PAC wouldn’t Google the name first to see if it was being used. Plus our logo is cooler,” WTJU General Manager Nathan Moore told The Star.
