TN-5 GOP Candidate Stewart Parks Plays ‘Taking the Fifth’

Live from Music Row Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed TN5 GOP candidate Stewart Parks in-studio to play Taking the Fifth.

Leahy: We are joined in-studio by Stewart Parks.  Stewart, candidate for the 5th Congressional District, nomination of Republicans. Stewart, we play a little game here with every congressional candidate that comes in-studio. Are you ready for the game?

Parks: Yes, sir.

Leahy: Alright. It’s called Taking the Fifth. All right, Stewart. There are seven questions, most of them pretty easy. But the idea is to have some fun, to show your knowledge of the district you seek to represent, which now includes the lower third of Davidson County, the western half of Wilson County, the eastern half of Williamson County, and all of Marshall, Maury, and Lewis counties.

Question number one. It’s a highway question, sort of. If you start in Nashville and drive southbound on I-65, you soon enter what Williamson County city?

Parks: Brentwood.

Leahy: Yes, one for one.

Leahy: Question number two. Who was the Mayor of Nashville before the current mayor, John Cooper?

Parks: David Briley or Megan Barry?

Leahy: Yes. David Briley. Two for two. This one is going to be a little bit harder.

Parks: Yes, sir.

Leahy: I wrote a thing about this one. Here we go. The Titans play in what is now called Nissan Stadium. It didn’t always go by that name. Name one other name for the stadium where the Titans currently play.

Parks: Adelphia Coliseum.

Leahy: Oh, very good. Three for three. All right. You’re a history buff. This next question might well be up your alley. In the 1864 Battle of Franklin, a plantation house served as a hospital for injured soldiers. Mostly injured Confederate soldiers. What is the name of that plantation?

Parks: Was it the Carter House?

Leahy: You’re very close. Carton Plantation. They’re just a mile apart. That’s pretty good, though.

Parks: My fault.

Leahy: No, that’s pretty good. That’s pretty good. Okay, next question. Question number five. Name the private girls’ school in Nashville attended by movie star Reese Witherspoon.

Parks: Harpeth Hall.

Leahy: Very good. She’s in the news today. She and Derek Henry are a minority interest in the soccer team, I think. Before sports teams at Belmont were called the Belmont Bruins, they had a different nickname. What was that nickname?

Parks: I do not know. The Lions?

Leahy: Good try. Now you’re an Ole Miss grad, right?

Parks: Were they the Rebels?

Leahy: (Laughs) Yes, they were. Last question. Are you ready?

Parks: Yes, sir.

Leahy: That’s pretty good. (Parks chuckles) Right now I’d say you’re four and a half out of six. I’ll give you a half point for Carter House.

Parks: Yes, sir.

Leahy: Okay, last question, number seven. The most famous graduate of Tennessee State University got her start as a reporter at what is now News Channel 5. She is now reportedly worth more than $1 billion. Who is she?

Parks: Honestly don’t know. Oprah?

Leahy: Yes, you do know.

Parks: (Laughter) Oh, sorry.

Leahy: Well done. Good job. Thank you for Taking the Fifth. We do that all in good fun.
