House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA-23) vowed to remove a Minnesota congresswoman from her House Foreign Affairs Committee assignment if Republicans take back the lower chamber of Congress in 2022.
“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who could be on committee. Never in the history have you had the majority tell the minority who could be on committee,” McCarthy told Breitbart.
He was referring to the removal of Reps. Marjory Taylor Greene (R-GA-14) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ-04) by Democrats from their committees.
In return McCarthy has vowed to do the same, and one of the Democrats on his list is Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05).
“Ilhan Omar should not be serving on Foreign Affairs,” he said. “This is a new level of what the Democrats have done.”
Omar has previously been raked over the coals for tweets deemed anti-semitic by supporters of Israel.
She has also called for the complete elimination of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) the organization responsible for securing America’s border against illegal aliens, and in some cases, foreign terrorists.
Omar’s office did not return a comment request.
McCarthy also said he would remove Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-15) from his position on the House Intelligence Committee. Swalwell was accused in late 2020 of being compromised by a Chinese spy.
Swalwell lamented McCarthy’s pledge on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Monday night.
“He’s targeting me and he’s targeting Schiff and he’s targeting Ms. Omar because we’re effective. Not for any other reason,” he said on the show. “This is the Trumpization of politics. He’s doing it purely for retaliation purposes and he’s not even offering a fig leaf as to why he’s doing it.”
Another California congressman is also on McCarthy’s short list for committee removal.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA-28), according to the House Minority Leader, should also be removed from the House Intelligence Committee for knowingly peddling the false and salacious Steele Dossier during former President Donald Trump’s term in office.
“You look at Adam Schiff — he should not be serving on Intel when he has openly, knowingly now used a fake dossier, lied to the American public in the process and doesn’t have any ill will [and] says he wants to continue to do it,” McCarthy said.
