Republican Kendall Qualls will receive the endorsement of the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police during a Tuesday morning press conference, his campaign said in a press release.
Qualls will receive the endorsement in front of the Peace Officers Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol and plans to “contrast his support of law enforcement with that of his opponent,” U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips.
Qualls called his opponent “arrogant and delusional” earlier this month after Phillips said it was “unfair and irresponsible to expect law enforcement to maintain safety and order in our cities until we rectify 400 years of racism and oppression.”
“Instead of fueling the flames of racial division and accusing Third District residents of white privilege, let’s start with fully funding and supporting our police departments, ending the failed policies of progressive politicians and urban elites, and uniting Americans over shared experiences and challenges,” Qualls said in response.
Republican Senate candidate Jason Lewis announced Monday that he has received the endorsement of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis.
“Like many in our profession, we have endorsed persons on both sides of the aisle for decades. Unlike Tina Smith, Jason Lewis stands for law and order and wants to hold people accountable for burning our cities, rioting and looting,” Bob Kroll, president of the Minneapolis police union, said in his endorsement letter.
“We cannot watch our livelihoods be destroyed by Antifa and other extreme hate groups. This election, there is a lot at stake, but the biggest risk is law and order and bringing our nation together instead of furthering the divide,” Kroll added.
Lewis has already received the endorsement of both the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police.
“The law enforcement profession in America is under unrelenting and unprecedented attack. Just this weekend two police officers were shot in an ambush, and police officers nationwide are being vilified and targeted like never before,” Lewis said in a statement.
“This hostile environment is undoubtedly a symptom of the radical ‘defund the police’ movement, and Democrats like Sen. Tina Smith are adding to this toxic culture by blatantly undermining law enforcement and jeopardizing public safety. This cannot stand and it will not stand when I’m your U.S. Senator.”
