Republican to Host Thanksgiving Gathering, Sends Walz and Ellison Invite

Representative-elect Erik Mortensen (R-MN-55A), said he has invited Gov. Tim Walz (DFL) and Attorney General Keith Ellison (DFL) to his home for a Thanksgiving celebration this week.

Their presence at Mortensen’s home, of course, would be a violation of the governor’s four-week prohibition on social gatherings with people from other households. Gov. Walz announced sweeping new restrictions on the economy and private events in an executive order issued last week.

“We should be rejecting tyranny, like I’ll be doing on Wednesday night, and I encourage everybody else to go ahead and have safe, responsible get-togethers this holiday season,” said Mortensen, who will be having some friends over to his home the night before Thanksgiving.

Technically, Mortensen’s actions could be punishable by a $1,000 fine or up to 90 days in jail. Walz’s new order also allows Ellison’s office to investigate “threatened violations” of the mandate.

“Those invitations are in the mail. I would suspect that they’ll be receiving them on Monday morning,” Mortensen said, referring to the invites he mailed to Walz and Ellison.

“I hope to see them there because they’re going to hear firsthand how many lives they have decimated in Minnesota. They’ll hear stories firsthand from people who have been severely impacted by these illegal and unconstitutional orders,” he added.
