Green Bay Mayor Asks for Sanctions Against Gableman in Wisconsin Election Investigation

The Mayor of Green Bay is asking for sanctions against Michael Gableman, with the Wisconsin Office of Special Counsel, for his actions in the election investigation. Eric Genrich’s attorney Jeffrey Mandell made the request in Waukesha County Circuit Court, claiming Gableman made “incorrect statements.”

Mandell asked that Judge Ralph Ramirez order Gableman to take out full page ads in several Wisconsin newspapers correcting what he believes to be mischaracterizations of Genrich. Gableman is currently suing Genrich as well as the mayor of Madison, Satya Rhodes-Conway, for allegedly not cooperating with his investigation.

Gableman said, “[Green Bay Mayor] Eric Genrich and [Madison Mayor] Satya Rhodes-Conway have chosen to ignore the subpoenas issued by the Wisconsin Assembly because they have no intention of answering uncomfortable questions about what they did with the millions of dollars in Zuckerberg money that they took.” The Wisconsin Daily Star reported.

“In addition, [Mandell] asked Ramirez to order Gableman to tell the Assembly committee that he had wrongly said that Genrich had violated his legal obligations. Mandell also wants Ramirez to require Gableman to pay fines and take a class on legal ethics,” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Gableman has been conducting an investigation of the 2020 Wisconsin election and specifically issued subpoenas for Green Bay, Madison, and three other major cities due to funding they received from Mark Zueckerberg through the Centers for Tech and Civic Life.

While Gableman initially reported that the cities were cooperating with the investigation, it appears from the lawsuit that Green Bay and Madison decided not to follow through. Gableman’s lawsuit against them alleges that they were supposed to take part in interviews on November 15 but did not show up. The mayors are disputing Gableman’s claim, stating that they believed the process to be “indefinitely postponed.”
