Wisconsin GOP Slams Evers for Lack of Action Amid Extended Spike in Crime

Tony Evers

The Republican Party of Wisconsin slammed Governor Tony Evers for his lack of action amid an extended crime wave that has impacted residents of the state.

Furthermore, in an interview with WISN, rather than offer solutions to the issue, Evers blamed Republicans in the state legislature for the ongoing dilemma.

“Two years into a historic crime spike, Tony Evers is still ignoring families’ concerns and failing to take public safety seriously,” said Republican Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Anna Kelly. “Wisconsin families deserve a real leader who will stand up for law enforcement and fight to keep our communities safe – not a feckless figurehead who will only pass the buck.”

According to data from the MacIver Institute, “Wisconsin saw a 62% increase in murders, and the violent crime rate per 100,000 people in rose 8.85% between 2019 and 2020.”

In 2021, more than 740 individuals were shot in Milwaukee alone, according to a report from The Associated Press.

Most notably, convicted criminal Darrell Brooks allegedly drove his car into a Christmas parade, killing six people and injuring many more. Earlier that year, Brooks was released from custody on a $1,000 bail set by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Evers refused to act on a complaint against Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm for the low total.

Yes, Every Kid

“Tony Evers didn’t mention increasing violent crime in his State of the State Address because he doesn’t have a plan to keep Wisconsin families safe. In the past year we watched our communities ripped apart by violence and destruction and Tony Evers can’t be bothered to even acknowledge it. Clearly the governor is more concerned with his election year bribe than dead children on our streets. Tony Evers may be too weak to stand up to criminals, but I’m not,” added Rebecca Kleefisch, who is running to unseat the governor.
