Democrats on the House Oversight and Reform Committee announced on Wednesday that they are launching an investigation into the forensic audit of ballots in Maricopa County, Arizona.
The group penned a letter to Douglas Logan, the CEO of Cyber Ninjas, Inc. — the company hired by the Arizona State Senate to conduct the review of almost 2.1 million ballots.
The Democratic members stated that the goal of their investigation was to review information to determine if the audit was justified.
“Americans’ right to vote is protected by the Constitution and is the cornerstone of our democratic system of government. The Committee is seeking to determine whether the privately funded audit conducted by your company in Arizona protects the right to vote or is instead an effort to promote baseless conspiracy theories, undermine confidence in America’s elections, and reverse the result of a free and fair election for partisan gain,” Representatives Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) and Jamie Raskin (D-MD-08) (pictured above, left-to-right), two top Democrats on the Oversight and Reform Committee, wrote in their letter.
The lawmakers laid out multiple “concerns” with the firm’s involvement in the audit, such as “lack of election audit experience, sloppy and insecure audit practices, and the embrace of election conspiracy theories.”
“The Committee is deeply troubled by Cyber Ninjas’ lack of election audit experience; its reported mismanagement of the audit in Maricopa County, which may have compromised ballots and election equipment; your own bias and history of embracing conspiracy theories related to the election; and the private sources of funding that may have further undermined the credibility and impartiality of this effort,” they said.
However, the “investigation, launched by the Democrats comes after Cyber Ninjas, Inc. has largely concluded their work and have begun to write reports on their findings.
Other Congressional members rejected the idea of the federal government becoming involved in the matter. “Now congressional democrats are trying to insert themselves into a state election issue. They seem very worried about something,” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ-04) said.
