Kari Lake Calls Primary Opponent ‘Doug Ducey in a Dress’

The Arizona gubernatorial race is heating up in the Republican primary, as candidates attempt to distinguish themselves from each other. Former news anchor Kari Lake, who is leading in polling and has Donald Trump’s endorsement, has been calling out Karrin Taylor Robson’s record, referring to her as “Doug Ducey in a dress.” Lake is highly critical of Ducey’s record on COVID-19 restrictions, lack of action on border security, and, she says, being weak on election integrity.

Lake told The Arizona Sun Times, “Karrin Taylor Robson is the exact opposite of whatever she claims to be. She claims to be a single mother, while she hides her 95-year-old husband from the public. She claims to be tough on the border, when in reality she is an open-borders globalist. She claims to be pro-life, yet her record proves that she supports infanticide. If she ever claims to be a Vegetarian, every beef cow in Arizona should run and hide.”

Taylor Robson opposed SB 1457, the pro-life legislation which bans aborting babies due to genetic abnormalities such as Down syndrome this past legislative session. While serving on the governing board for the state’s public universities (Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona), she argued the measure could affect university contracts. The bill ultimately passed the legislature and was signed into law.

Lake also criticized Taylor Robson over an arena in Colorado. The Ed Robson Arena – named after Taylor Robson’s husband – allows transgenders born as biological males to use women’s bathrooms. “Hey, @Karrin4Arizona — why does your stadium (Robson Arena in Colorado) allow Men into the Ladies Room? Why play into the Left’s delusions? I hope you and Ed will get this fixed. Our Girls deserve better.”

Lake slammed Taylor Robson for denigrating U.S. history. During an interview with Christian conservative author Eric Metaxas, Taylor Robson declared, “We’ve got a history that none of us are, you know, all that proud of.”

Taylor Robson has also come under fire in other capacities as a regent. She signed a Bar complaint along with the other regents against Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, accusing him of conflicts of interest in his lawsuits against the Arizona university system for excessively high tuition, providing in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, and using its tax-exempt status to provide a tax break to a hotel developer.

Brnovich said believed the Bar complaint was filed in retaliation for his lawsuits. It was successfully dismissed, and Brnovich went to prevail in his lawsuit to stop Arizona State University from allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition.

Although Taylor Robson poured a significant amount of her own money into the race, Lake has polled higher than all of her Republican opponents combined for much of the race.

Trump said earlier this month that he believes Lake will “go down in history as the greatest governor of Arizona.”
