As President Joe Biden’s White House plans to end a rule implemented by the previous administration that helped to expeditiously expel illegal aliens, an Arizona congressman voiced his concern.
“What’s going to happen is you’re going to have a cascading catastrophe,” Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05) said on Fox News. “What’s going to happen is you’re going to have the Border Patrol totally overwhelmed. So, you’re going to have more opioids, fentanyl coming across [the border], it’s going to cheapen that drug, and it’s going to make it more accessible. You’re going to have more opioid overdose problems.”
Biggs did not stop there.
“You’re going to have terrorists coming across,” he said. “More than ever – last year we had more than ever – you’re going to have even more than that. You’re going to have the border communities that have to deal with this on a firsthand basis – they won’t be able to deal with it – their NGOs are already overrun. The morale of the border patrol is low. You’re going to have criminally violent folks released into the country, and it’s going to be something that we just can’t imagine.”
Biggs said that even the Biden administration has conceded that ending Title 42 will likely lead to 500,000 illegal border crossings per month.
Still, it plans to go ahead with the cancellation.
But some states, including Arizona, are seeking a court order to stop Biden’s removal of the rule from proceeding before its May 23 end date.
“This suit challenges an imminent, man-made, self-inflicted calamity: the abrupt elimination of the only safety valve preventing this administration’s disastrous border policies from devolving into unmitigated chaos and catastrophe. Specifically, this action challenges the Biden Administration’s revocation of Title 42 border control measures, which will, absent judicial relief, become effective May 23, 2022,” says a lawsuit filed last week by Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) and his counterparts in Missouri and Louisiana.
According to Border Report, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered two million illegal aliens crossing the southern border in 2021, a near-record high. That number does not include illegal aliens who crossed the border undetected.
