Why You’re Not Reaching Your Health and Fitness Goals

Tennessee Star

Health and fitness are one area of life. No doubt they’re an incredibly important area, but they are still just one area. With few exceptions, your level of health and fitness is under your own control. The laws of God and nature control health and fitness, just as these laws control all aspects of our lives. Therefore the same character that we exercise in all other areas of our lives affects this area in the same manner. So to consider why you may not be reaching your health and fitness goals, so too consider why you may not be meeting goals (aims), in other areas of your life. Think about particular paths you’ve taken, or rather started to take, but then quit for one reason or another. Think about your career path, for instance. Have you invested time and energy learning a vocation, only to give up on it, thereby wasting time and money? How many false starts have you had? Now apply this to health and fitness. Let’s look at diet. How many times have you started a new eating program, only to quit once the going got rough? Often it’s because you gave in to the siren’s…

Visitors Celebrate Tennessee’s Birthday Saturday At Tennessee State Library And Archives

Hundreds of people came to the Tennessee State Library and Archives on Saturday afternoon to wish Tennessee a happy birthday and take a look at three original versions of the state constitution. Organizers initially made plans to accommodate 500 people, but expanded the free registration to 800 when interest was greater than anticipated. “We’ve had a wonderful turnout,” said Chuck Sherrill, state librarian and archivist. Sherrill said this was the first year the state library held a celebration like this, and given its success, organizers are considering making it an annual tradition. Tennessee turned 221 years old on Thursday. Visitors at Saturday’s event were given a tour of the building, located in downtown Nashville near the Capitol, and learned about the library’s collections and services. Along the way, historians in period clothing told about events in the past. The constitutions were in the lobby in special display cases made for Saturday’s event. The first constitution was from 1796, when Tennessee became a state – officially on June 1 of that year. The other two were revisions adopted in 1834 and 1870. Outside, children were invited to play early American games on the lawn, create birthday cards for Tennessee and get temporary…

Small Group of Wilson County Democrat Protesters Showed Lack of Creativity With Signs

MT. JULIET, Tennessee–The small group of Wilson County Democrats who showed up to protest at State Senator Mae Beavers announcement of her campaign for Governor of Tennessee at Charlie Daniels Park in Mt. Juliet on Saturday afternoon lacked creativity in the signs they displayed at the event. The protesters, who numbered between a dozen and two dozen, were largely lost in the crowd of about 300 enthusiastic Beavers supporters, hanging back outside the perimeter of the event for the most part. One protester, who held a sign that said “Mae met with me. Nevertheless, she didn’t listen,” engaged in a brief exchange of pleasantries with one of Mae Beavers’ supporters who carried a large American flag. Another protester, apparently a frequent attendee at events attended by Beaver, found the day’s 80 plus degrees a little too much and spent much of the day sitting down in one of the folding chairs while his fellow protesters stood around the perimeter. His sign said simply “No Way Mae.” Another woman in a tie-died shirt held a sign that said “Remind her not every constituent is a White Male Christian. The protesters, who spent the early part of the event under the…

Both Shrewd And Sweet, Mae Beavers Has Adoring Fans In Her Bid For Governor

Tennessee Star

MT. JULIET, Tennessee–State Sen. Mae Beavers may be nicknamed the Iron Lady, but she’s not without her soft side. “She and her husband are sweet, loving, caring people,” said Mike Dunn, who attended her rally Saturday afternoon at which the Mt. Juliet Republican formally announced that she will run for Tennessee governor. Dunn told The Tennessee Star that he has known the Beavers for years and used to attend church with them. He was at Saturday’s event at Mt. Juliet’s Charlie Daniels Park with his two sons, 12-year-old Brennan and 11-year-old Jackson. Dunn also likes it that Beavers is tough-minded and won’t back down from positions she believes in. “She’s never afraid to go against the grain,” he said. Beavers gave a speech at the rally in which she said she would fight to repeal the gas tax and strengthen vetting for refugees coming into the state. She also said she would push to maintain school bathrooms based on biological sex and support pro-life causes and the definition of marriage as one man and one woman per the Tennessee Constitution. Supporters waved American flags and snacked on refreshments that included Mae Sugar Cookies shaped in the letter M. Her three…

Faith: Verse of the Day for Sunday, June 4

Tennessee Star - Verse of the Day

VERSE OF THE DAY Be blessed and be a blessing June 4, Sunday Matthew 5:13-16 13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
