The founder of CloutHub, a free speech social media network, has responded to former President Donald J. Trump’s class action lawsuit against several Silicon Valley titans, which the forty-fifth president announced Wednesday.
“I am pleased that President Trump is fighting back against Big Tech corporations after enduring months of blatant injustices,” Jeff Brain said in press release. “His lawsuit is based on the infringement of his fundamental free speech rights that powerful companies such as Facebook and Twitter imposed based on their own political bias; a bias that has no place with such important keepers of our national public square online.”
“Regrettably, the harmful behavior of these mainstream social media platforms has had an irreversible ripple effect on our society. Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have done everything in their power to silence public discourse, for instance, on topics including election integrity, the COVID-19 lab leak theory, and more – even when some online discussions have been led by distinguished legal scholars and experts,” he continued.
Calling Big Tech “beyond the point of redemption,” Brain said that Americans deserve to be able to have public discourse online that is free from the bias of corporate media and social media companies.
Earlier Wednesday, Trump announced that he would be spearheading a major lawsuit against Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google and its CEO Sundar Pichai, and Twitter and its CEO Jack Dorsey. Trump claims that the tech companies have violated the First Amendment rights of Americans by banning them from their platforms.
Many view the censorship as politically-motivated.
“We’re asking the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to order an immediate halt to social media companies’ illegal, shameful censorship of the American people – and that’s exactly what they are doing,” he said. We’re demanding for an end to the shadow-banning; a stop to the silencing; and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing, and canceling that you know so well. Our case will prove that this censorship is unlawful, it’s unconstitutional, and it’s completely un-American.”
The former president has been banned from Twitter, Facebook, and Google-owned YouTube, all of which are targets of his lawsuit.
