At that meeting, Minneapolis City Council Member Jason Chavez outlined what he referred to as “our plan” to add “homeless status, immigration status, and justice impacted status as protected classes” in the city’s civil rights ordinance.

In response to pro-Palestine unrest on campus last semester, the University of Pennsylvania has temporarily banned encampments and overnight demonstrations for the 2024-2025 school year.

“To ensure the safety of the Penn community and to protect the health and property of individuals, encampments and overnight demonstrations are not permitted in any University location, regardless of space (indoor or outdoor),” the university announced in its policy book’s section entitled Temporary Standards and Procedures for Campus Events and Demonstrations section.

The debate will take place on Sept. 10, in Philadelphia. The progressive Knight Foundation (KF) is providing training to journalists ahead of the 2024 general election on election related legal issues. KF announced in July that the organization would fund election news coverage “primarily in swing states.” It will also provide journalists with “explainers and training …from The Associated Press.”

“One local news organization in each swing state will also receive a grant to serve as an ‘anchor,’ bolstering the distribution of election-related coverage with editorial partners in their state.” So far, most of KF’s grants in Arizona have gone to Arizona State University.

Cornell University’s main administrative building was vandalized Monday with pro-Palestinian messages, marking a tumultuous start to the fall semester, according to the Cornell Daily Sun.

The building’s glass door was shattered and the messages “Israel bombs, Cornell pays” and “blood is on your hands” were written in red spray paint on the morning of the first day of classes, according to the Sun. Cornell is one of many universities that saw protests and other unrest in the fall and spring semesters following Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel that left over 1,200 dead.

Qaid Farhan Alkadi, 52, was abducted by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attacks and spent more than ten months in captivity, The Times of Israel reported. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari described the tunnel rescue operation as “brave and complex,” though officials were unable to release further details of the raid.

That included 9 percent of Sanders’ 570,000 Wisconsin supporters, or 51,300, 8 percent of his 590,000 Michigan supporters, or 47,200, and 16 percent of his 732,000 Pennsylvania supporters, or 117,120.

China is planning to restrict exports of a key mineral needed to make weapons while a U.S. company that could be reducing America’s reliance on foreign suppliers is languishing in red tape, energy experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Chinese government announced on August 15 that it will restrict exports of antimony, a critical mineral that dominates the production of weapons globally and is essential for producing equipment like munitions, night vision goggles and bullets that are essential to national security, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Perpetua Resources, an American mining company, has been navigating red tape for years to develop a mine in Valley County, Idaho,  that could decrease reliance on the Chinese supply of antimony, but the slow permitting process is getting in the way, energy experts told the DCNF.

Roughly one-third of the funds spent by the Lincoln Project, a PAC founded by ex-Republican political consultants with the aim of stopping former President Donald Trump, this election cycle has gone to firms controlled by its senior operatives, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show.

The Lincoln Project has spent $12.8 million since January 2023, and just over $4 million of that has gone to firms owned by members of its leadership, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of FEC records. Fox Business in 2021 reported that more than half of the $90 million the Lincoln Project had raised for the 2020 election was paid out to firms owned by leaders.

The Tennessee Titans continued to upgrade areas of the current Nissan Stadium heading into the NFL season, spending on everything from escalator repairs to electrical upgrades to stadium lighting and step repairs to a perimeter sidewalk.

Those repairs are funded through public funds in the stadium Capital Fund, capped at $42 million in expenses starting when the amended lease agreement was signed to build a new stadium and ending when the current Nissan Stadium is no longer used and demolished.

Davidson County Criminal Court records reveal 50-year-old Wilmer Garcia was arrested on August 7 and charged with multiple counts of sexual and aggravated sexual battery and solicitation of a minor for crimes that police say occurred between November 2023 and March 2024.

Ohio Bulletin Issued for New, Deadly Drug Combinations

Mixtures of powerful drugs that can cause overdoses or skin wounds are being found more often in illicit drug samples throughout Ohio, according to the Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center.

The agency recently issued a safety bulletin to alert Ohioans of what it calls “tranq-dope” and “benzo-dope” after state labs reported an eight-fold increase in drug samples in one and double the number in the other between 2021 and 2023.

A left-leaning organization backed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is promoting a $6 million election grant program to “support local election officials” from an influential left-wing nonprofit, The Federalist reported Friday.

The Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) allegedly told election officials to participate in the “A More Responsive Government 2024 Grant Program” associated with the Institute for Responsive Government (IRG), according to emails obtained by The Federalist. The CTCL funneled $350 million to states across the nation in 2020, with Zuckerberg donating $328 million to the organization, according to Influence Watch.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti on Friday joined seven other states and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in an antitrust lawsuit accusing the property management software company RealPage of using its service to algorithmically fix rental prices across the United States, allowing them to form a monopoly that allows rental owners to collaboratively set prices in a bid to avoid market pressures to lower rent.

The DOJ confirmed the legal action on Friday, alleging RealPage is engaged in an “unlawful scheme to decrease competition among landlords in apartment pricing and to monopolize the market for commercial revenue management software that landlords use to price apartments.”

University of Kentucky to Shut Down DEI Office

In the latest blow for the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) movement, the University of Kentucky has announced that it will be shuttering its DEI offices.

As reported by Breitbart, the University of Kentucky follows multiple other schools in Texas, Florida, and Alabama who have already taken the step of shutting down official DEI practices on-campus, where school administrators would facilitate the discrimination of student applicants and faculty hires on the basis of race and gender.
