Commentary: More Than Just Millions of People

Illegal Border Crossers
by Michael A. Letts

It’s not just millions of unvetted illegal aliens — the left likes to call them “migrants” and “refugees,” to give this dangerous deluge a better mouthfeel — who have poured across the uncontrolled southern border in the three-and-a-half years since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris assumed control of the federal government.

It is also likely that some millions of dollars worth of military weaponry — in particular, small arms — has also poured across the border, along with the millions of unvetted illegal aliens. Some of whom are among the most violent criminals ever to threaten the peace and safety of Americans — as well as American law enforcement.

Is any of this military hardware from the botched Afghanistan withdrawal?

Just a few days ago, news broke about gangs of “migrants” and “refugees” who appear to be members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua storming an apartment complex in Aurora, CO, armed with what appear to be military rifles.

And not just in Colorado, either.

A hotel in El Paso, TX, was shut down by law enforcement after it was taken over by . . . Tren de Aragua gangsters. “Surveillance footage accompanied the complaint, appearing to show ‘at least one gun being shot, another used to threaten, men holding knives and another man with a hatchet assaulting people and causing damage to the hotel in front of a security guard.’”

Interestingly, the hotel is apparently owned by a South Korean immigrant, according to El Paso County Attorney Christina Sanchez.

InsightCrime notes that “investigations by Colombian police and prosecutors” into the activities of Tren de Aragua “showed that the group planned to pick up three tons of marijuana that they intended to traffic across the border to Venezuela. Police also seized multiple weapons, grenades, an armored vehicle, and 10 kilograms of marijuana during the arrest.” (Italics added.)

Last year alone, an estimated 330,000 Venezuelans entered the country. How many of them are Tren de Aragua gangsters or ordinary criminals is literally impossible to determine — because determining it would entail knowing who, exactly, these “migrants” are and what their history is.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have deliberately turned a blind eye to that.

Interim Aurora, CO, police chief Heather Morris said in the wake of the apartment attack that she “stopped by here at 12th and Dallas got quite a few of our officers out here that are out here tonight. Again, I’ve been out here for several weeks making contact with our residents, reassuring them about the criminal activity that’s happening here and how we’re going to address it. We’re out here, we want to reassure the people that live in this community that we are actively investigating criminal activity that’s happening and listening to them so that we can learn anything that we’re missing.”

All of which is fine but doesn’t directly deal with the underlying issue — which is how it came to pass that wolf packs of Venezuelan criminals are swarming apartment complexes in Colorado — and Texas. And New York City too.

It is unfortunate that President Trump did not press Harris on this, as she is directly responsible for this. She was directly tasked by Joe Biden to be the administration’s “border czar,” with the implication being that her job was to get the border under control.

The thing is, it was under control — before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took control of the federal government. Gangs of Venezuelan thugs were not wolf-packing apartment complexes in Colorado or anywhere else in America when Donald Trump was president. And it is unlikely that millions — billions of dollars worth — of military equipment would have been left for the taking in Afghanistan.

No one can say for sure what happened to all of that equipment — and weaponry. But how likely is it that some of it was sold off to whoever had the money to pay for it? Tren de Aragua has plenty of that because this gang is one of the biggest traffickers of illegal, deadly — and hugely profitable — narcotics.

But the main commodity this gang specializes in moving is people.

An article in The Economist explains how Tren de Aragua profits off the misery of desperately poor people it trafficks, including sex trafficking, a revenue stream that can be as lucrative as that associated with the trafficking of narcotics.

But it’s only lucrative when it works — more finely, when it is enabled by people such as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Biden at least has the possible excuse of not being aware of what’s been happening at the southern border over the past three-almost-four-years. But Kamala Harris certainly knows — even though she spent a great deal of those three-almost-four-years avoiding the border, where she might have been seen and been photographed seeing what’s been going on at the border and maybe asked about it by Americans who are having to deal with (and pay for) the consequences of it.

Now she has the audacity to pretend to agree with President Trump that the border needs to be controlled and that there is a problem with millions of unvetted foreigners pouring into the country, along with the possibility of millions of dollars worth of military weaponry left on the ground in Afghanistan, there for the taking.

Of course, she’s only pretending — for just long enough to fool enough people into voting for her. Once she no longer requires their support, she’ll almost certainly do what she’s done for the past almost four years now about controlling the border.

That being nothing at all.
