MDS Cheese Announces $8.9 Million Expansion Project in Coffee County

MDS Foods Inc., also known as MDS Cheese, recently announced that the company will invest $8.9 million to expand current operations at its Tullahoma facility in the Coffee County Joint Industrial Park located in Tullahoma.

MDS Cheese – headquartered in Navarre, Ohio – serves supermarket delis and restaurants across the U.S. as a manufacturer and supplier of premium cheese slices, shreds, chunks, cubes, and loaves. The company was founded in 2003.

The company’s expansion project in Tullahoma will expand its current manufacturing and distribution capabilities by adding “roughly 48,000 square feet of cooler space dedicated to the distribution of finished products and approximately 10,000 square feet of space for new cheese production lines,” according to a press release by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).

“Tennessee’s quality workforce and unmatched business climate make our state the ideal location for companies to succeed,” Governor Bill Lee released in a statement. “I thank this business for its commitment to job creation in Tullahoma and look forward to seeing the economic prosperity that this project will bring to Tennesseans.”

MDS Cheese’s new investment in Tullahoma is expected to create 75 new jobs in Coffee County – bringing the total number of Tennesseans employed by the company to nearly 200, TNECD notes.

“After 15 years of being in Coffee County, we are excited to continue growing by expanding our team and business here in Tullahoma,” Founder & President of MDS Cheese Jim Straughn said in a statement. “The cities of Tullahoma and Manchester, along with the Coffee County Industrial Board, have been great partners and made this expansion possible for us and our dedicated team members. Thank you to all who have supported our business over the years. We look forward to the next chapter of growth in Coffee County.”
