The Davidson County Election Commission has revealed how many votes were cast during early voting for the 2023 Metro Nashville General Election.
A total of 57,461 individuals casted a vote during the early voting period which ran from Friday, July 14 to Saturday, July 29 at 12 polling locations. There are currently 497,219 registered voters in Davidson County.
The following data shows how many votes were cast on each day of the early voting period:
- Friday, July 14: 3,342 votes
- Saturday, July 15: 2,133 votes
- Monday, July 17: 3,224 votes
- Tuesday, July 18: 3,105 votes
- Wednesday, July 19: 2,203 votes
- Thursday, July 20: 3,143 votes
- Friday, July 21: 3,469 votes
- Saturday, July 22: 2,762 votes
- Monday, July 24: 3,394 votes
- Tuesday, July 25: 4,654 votes
- Wednesday, July 26: 3,826 votes
- Thursday, July 27: 6,064 votes
- Friday, July 28: 7,219 votes
- Saturday, July 29: 8,923 votes
The 2023 Metro Nashville General Election, which includes the Tennessee House District 51 Special Primary and Tennessee House District 52 Special General, will take place this Thursday, August 3. If necessary, a runoff election is scheduled for Thursday, September 14.
This election is notable as it features a wide-open mayoral race, as current mayor John Cooper announced he would not be seeking re-election. There are twelve candidates vying to be the next mayor of Music City.
A recent poll conducted by Washington-based GBAO Strategies on behalf of the Tennessee Laborers PAC through July 17-19 showed Metro Councilmember Freddie O’Connell leading the field of mayoral candidates with 21 percent of the vote while 23 percent of respondents answered “undecided.”
Trailing O’Connell in the poll was former political strategist Alice Rolli (13 percent), State Senator Jeff Yarbro (12 percent), and former Nashville Economic and Community Development Director Matt Wiltshire (10 percent).
A previous poll by Music City Research also showed O’Connell leading the field of candidates with 20 percent of the vote. However, 26 percent of respondents of that poll were “unsure” of who they would vote for in the mayoral race while 4 percent said they would vote for a different individual than the existing field of candidates.
